Dirty Pair 2 continues with five more episodes, one less than the first batch, and ditches having an ongoing story, returning to the format of the original Dirty Pair. I felt this was to its benefit, if the appeal of Dirty Pair is farcical, pulpy scifi action, to have the episodic stories. OVA #2 has Yuri and Kei enter a school to research a ghost incident, which entails the two getting immersed in school life. There’s a cute gap moe in Kei wearing a school uniform. It was also an interesting episode in seeing how poorly socialized Kei through the school setting with normal and

prim girls, it cleverly understood that Kei normally can just boss around Yuri and whoever in her line of work and had a nice dimensionality. OVA #3 has the pair escorting an outlaw fugitive man from out of the wilderness where they’re all stranded. It’s a classic comedy set up with the pair keeping an eye on the cunning and charismatic criminal. OVA #4 focused on Touma, a character in this series, who’s like a work partner who is good at computers, and trying to get him a date with a pretty florist. More of a romcom plot and it has a very anime twist to it. The florist girl has a great design with teal hair and big air vents. OVA #5 kicks up the action with a story about explosive robots disguised as regular people (returning to an old classic, Zambot 3, huh Sunrise?). Loved the pair’s casual outfits in this one.
Interestingly, this set of OVAs isn’t so outright scifi tinged as the first Flash OVA, or the original Dirty Pair series, which looked pulled right out of a city from Zeta Gundam. A lot of Dirty Pair Flash 2 is set during the day, in a fairly normal looking city and neighborhoods. It’s also worth noting that these OVAs are a step up from the first ones in visual quality, the outlines look cleaner and the art direction appears improved.
