Spacetoon (Arabic: سبيستون‎ or سبيس تون) is a pan–Arab free–to–air television channel that specializes in animation and children programs mainly from Japan. It began broadcasting on 15 March 2000 and it is headquartered in Dubai, UAE with offices in Riyadh. The channel targets children from 4 and up and is for the family. Its late night block Space Power is targeted at teenagers and young adults.

Spacetoon is closely affiliated with Syria-based dubbing company Venus Centre. Spacetoon is broadcast in 30 countries, and has an audience of over 500 million viewers, witch make it one the main channel to distribute anime in the MENA region.

This stack is for shoujo, josei or any other female-targeted show with a male protagonist. In case this stack is of interest to any of the guys, I tried to select shows with a non-objectified image of the guys first. But anyway, this stack is meant for any audience, so I didn't rule out fanservice shows or BL. Also, some shows, especially idols, usually have a formal female protagonist, but since most of the focus is on the male characters anyway, I took the liberty of listing some of them too.

This stack is for relatively realistic Slice of Life anime that depicts the daily life of the characters quite realistically and lacks excessive moe or other idealization/objectification of the social groups shown. Of course, taking into account the genre and premise of anime. For example, I defined Hibike as realistic since it's a rather visualy metaphorical anime, but didn't include many other CGDCT shows due to the "girl's zoo" premise.

A time capsule of anime straight from the 90's

Shoujo--like all demographics--is incredibly varied, featuring a wide mix of stories, genres and themes. Its protagonists are no exception, with different personalities and backgrounds, and having both girls and guys in leading roles. I wanted to highlight some shoujo anime written from a male POV.

Also, I can't attest to the quality of the lower/more obscure series on here (especially since shoujo manga tend to receive pretty trash adaptations). So do keep that in mind.


And I should clarify that Cowboy Bebop and Code Geass are both actually original anime that simply have earlier shoujo manga versions. They both had promotional shoujo manga that began running a few months before their respective anime began airing.

A mix of different genres and themes to explore in the shoujo/teen girl demographic. Good for beginners who arent familiar with the content and are interested in testing it out.
