Di Gi Charat

Just finished watched it again and this is different from what I remembered. Watched this on my childhood, it's dubbed on my language and aired on the TV. Was too young to understand, but now I find this is a great gag anime. It has the charm and the comedy of early 2000s anime.

The plot is... well, there's not really a specific plot. Two princesses from another planet come to earth for their coming-of-age. They don't have place to stay on earth, but different stores in a district offer them to stay, so both are living separately. They go strolling on earth, learning about how ... things work, and using magic items to solve problems they face. Cute and very charming!

This is peak fiction, I haven't come across any other anime that can compare to this.
The way Di gi Charat is written is genius in that it ascends the general rubric for anime and I had to evaluate it in a way different from any other series. The character designs for Dejiko, Puchiko, and Usada are peak moe and the citizens of akihabara being represented as anthropomorphic thumbs is a great metaphor for how the city is a hub for gamers. The comedy is a great mix of surreal humor and satire. All in all a great show if you're pretty acquainted with anime and ... love silly humor.

I don't know what I've just watched, and I don't understand the positive reviews at all.

Di Gi Charat is a straight-up bizarre and incomprehensible mess. We have a bunch of cute looking characters (with one if any personality traits) going on weird adventures which the writers saw in their fever dreams. That's all.

I have no idea who is supposed to be the target audience. It's too fast-paced and inappropriate for kids, but at the same time somehow too childish and boring for teenagers and adults.

The only thing I enjoyed are the characters' designs, they're cute and nice to look at.
