Grand Blue

Iori Kitahara moves to the coastal town of Izu for his freshman year at its university, taking residence above Grand Blue, his uncle's scuba diving shop. Iori has high hopes and dreams about having the ideal college experience, but when he enters the shop he is sucked into the alcoholic activities of the carefree members of the Diving Club who frequent the place. Persuaded by upperclassmen Shinji Tokita and Ryuujirou Kotobuki, Iori reluctantly joins their bizarre party. His cousin Chisa Kotegawa later walks in and catches him in the act, earning Iori her utter disdain.

Based on Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka's popular comedy manga, Grand Blue follows Iori's misadventures with his eccentric new friends as he strives to realize his ideal college dream, while also learning how to scuba dive.

This is a stupid show. The good kind of stupid. What do I mean by that? WELL GUYS... ARE A BUNCH OF DRUNK NAKED DIVERS GIVE OFF ANYTHING BUT STUPID VIBES????

Seriously though, this is an awesome show for a couple of reasons...
1. The comedy is very funny, maybe i just like drunk naked men.
2. Awesome characters. Big guys, weeb, dumbahh and the girls (idk how to categorize the girls other than chisa) all make for a very funny group of characters doing dumb shit.
3. Very pretty art, especially in the serious moments (not a whole lot of them)

I wouldn't really recommenced this show if you're ... here for the diving, they only do that stuff sometimes. But its still super good, bye gng.

Mixed Feelings

This show is reminiscent of American sitcoms: characters get together inside a space, and the plot revolves around either setting up a joke or delivering a punchline. There are some more serious moments, but they’re few and far between. There is a vibe of an instructional video sometimes because there are scenes of straight‑up diving talk, but they are integrated into the comedy, so it does not overwhelm you. Characters are mostly caricatures of different stereotypes that are prominent in anime. The sense of humor is, of course, subjective, so if you enjoy the play on stereotypes and gag humor in a show about college ... kids getting together to have a drink and get up to all sorts of shenanigans, then you will enjoy this show.

Great characters, except Iori being blank and inconsistent, and the two demons essentially being one character. So many anime desperately miss a gem that the Azusa character is… And she is sadly the only seinen part about this anime, considering how little screen time Nanaka is given aside from gags.

Awful writing ruined very promising potential of the show. One half of it is repetitive, the other is ad-hoc incohesive jokes for the sake of filler telegraphed from a mile away. The spotty drama is suffocated. The undeniably interesting characters are not given the room to develop. Not to mention it has almost nothing to do ... with diving and the main plot has almost no progression at all.

All-in-all a sad drawn-out disappointment. Would rate much lower if not for characters.
