[The episode-based synopsis I wish was available when I was internally debating on watching this + my very brief thoughts on each]
Ep 1: Frontier
In a world far into the future, where humanoid robots are as common as dirt, Li Wei is a new intern at a laboratory that specialises in robotic engineering and tech. On a seemingly normal day at her work, when the high-tech central control system starts behaving abnormally, it is up to her to save humanity from a robot uprising.
[The plot may sound cliché, but the execution was a treat to watch. Very cinematic. Must watch till the end to get the
...
whole story. 8/10]
Ep 2: G-Man
Space superhero G-Man is adamant about fighting evils, even when one of said evils, villain Tin-Man, is sick of fighting all the time. Will Tin-Man be able to achieve a life free from all this violence?
[Artstyle is reminiscent of old 80s anime. Has a certain kind of comedic tone that felt like an acquired taste. Ending was funny tho. 5/10]
Ep 3: Homeward Journey
Ying Ying, a young pharmacist working in a pharmaceutical lab on Mars, is on her way to gain a promotion. However, she risks her career (in more ways than one) when she receives a call from back home on Earth, informing her about her beloved grandma's grave illness.
[This felt like a whole ass movie. Beautiful art style. Probably the most easily consumable story in this series, but in a positive sense. 7/10]
Ep 4: The Rat
On a rainy night, a drunkard comes home to find a large rat in his house and promptly attempts to get rid of it.
[My favourite episode. Won't really explain why, since that would spoil the experience of unravelling the story yourself. Amazing execution. 8/10]
Ep 5: Sunny to Cloudy
Blinded by insecurity, a man thinks his photographer wife might be cheating on him with her male models. His jealousy leads him to take drastic measures, to cut out the men from his darling's life.
[Such a fun concept. Loved the ending. Art style is adorably whimsical. 7/10]
Ep 6: Tomato kitchen
In a world where humanoid tomatoes exist, treating them as a mere food ingredient seems to be the norm. They're caged, abused, cut, and killed- despite the cries and protests. No one bats an eye as they fill their bowls with more tomato soup. Until someone does.
[I guess I have another favourite episode. This was hella fun to watch, because there are so many possible interpretations. The conceptual idea is also so simple yet creative. Kudos to the writer. Must watch till the end. 8/10]
Ep 7: Circle
Son of an elite Mongolian wrestler, Temur has grown up with an ambition to become an equally astounding player. But time isn't kind to his passion. He starts doubting if he'll ever be worthy of his father's jangga- a circular neckpiece awarded to only the best wrestlers.
[An emotional story about reigniting sparks of lost dreams. Many may relate to the story. Good enough for a short film, but nothing remarkable. 6/10]
Ep 8: ChaCha
Four members of a family travel all the way from China to France for a wedding. But just because they're here for a function doesn't mean they can't go sightseeing. Shopping and shenanigans ensue.
[Cute simple story. Funny in a relatable sense, as in the dynamic and interaction/dialogues were extremely candid. 6/10]
Ep 9: Two Side
Struggling with truth and acceptance, a young boy is lost and confused about the murder of a two faced being. Is he the perpetrator? Or the victim?
[This art style was easily the prettiest of the bunch. But I must admit I didn't understand the story properly- thus the low rating. It was befuddling for my 2 brain cells. I'd appreciate someone watching and explaining it to me if possible. 6/10]
Ep 10: Fiziks
Head over heels for the class monitor, a young high school student is on cloud nine after receiving an invite to her home after classes. But as luck would have it, he's tasked with solving an additional problem set by his strict physics teacher. Will he be able to solve the questions and get to his crush's house on time?
[I think it was supposed to be funny and silly, but instead came off as slightly corny. The dramatic representation of the physics problems was pretty cool tho ig. 4/10]
Ep 11: Children left behind
Needing to go back to the city for work, Xiaoyue's parents leave her with her grandparents in the village. Left behind, Xiaoyue's only source of company is her book of fairytales.
[This had the potential to be a solid tearjerker. The colour palette of the scenes was soft and had a despondent vibe. But at the end, it didn't evoke the feelings I expected it to. 5/10]
Ep 12: The ultimate show
When a high-tech live streaming device that promises easy money comes into his hands, Kai doesn't hesitate to start using it. But he should've- especially when it offers him the ultimate experience. Because unbeknownst to him, it costs a heavy price.
[The concept/idea behind the story is rather inventive. The modern shaman idea was hilariously well done. If this were a proper series, I'd def watch it. But by itself, it had a somewhat unsatisfactory ending. 7/10]
