Keroro Gunsou

It is the year 2004 AD, and pandemonium breaks as a mysterious frog-like alien race fills the sky with UFOs—or so 12-year-old Fuyuki Hinata dreams. Coincidentally, Sergeant Keroro, leader of a preliminary squad for the Keronian invasion of Pekopon—the alien name for Earth—begins his mission by invading Fuyuki's home. After subduing the boy and his sister, Keroro plans to reunite with his comrades and return to the mothership to repair his invaluable invasion device, the Kero Ball. Unfortunately, he receives word that headquarters has abandoned his unit's retrieval due to an unprecedented issue that forced the rest of the Keronians to flee.

Consequently, Keroro is forced to stay at the Hinata residence together with the friendly, starry-eyed Fuyuki; his athletic, short-tempered sister Natsumi; and their hardworking, attractive mother Aki. Now stuck until further notice, Keroro and his platoon spend each day plotting world domination, but are thwarted each and every time by various unexpected factors. Nevertheless, as they live alongside humans, they learn to treat them as friends and allies, forming comedic yet meaningful connections that make their lives on Earth worthwhile.

Keroro Gunso.
What in space can I possibly say about Keroro Gunso?

I'll start by saying that there's not one character that I dislike in this whole series. Even ones I didn't warm to at first eventually have episodes that make me not just like, but adore them. And boy, does this show have a huge cast of main, secondary, and minute characters, all of whom are bursting with charm.
When I finished episode 358 -- yes, I watched every single one, my longest anime to date! -- my upper lip wobbled and my eyes genuinely filled with tears. Keroro Gunso is like watching a ... family grow all together, a flourishing friend group who all love and understand each other despite their many differences. And even though there's many situations that go unresolved in this show, like various unrequited romances and the like, it's one of those things I'll happy ponder on for as long as Keroro Gunso is at the forefront of my mind.

I don't think this is an anime about a group of frogs who try to invade planet Earth, as much as this show wants us to believe. I really do think at the heart, this show is about friendship. And I know that sounds cheesy, but I think this goofy little comedy about frogs and middle schoolers really does have a lot to say about how when it all comes down to it, we should focus more on the appreciation and love for one another that we have, rather than focusing on the negatives, or the details about someone that you don't like.

Every character in this show -- even the semi-one-note characters like Kogoro and Lavie -- have so much heart that they're impossible not to love. And when you put them all together, you get so many interactions that warm your heart, and make you laugh and cry. Even though pretty much everything has a comedic slant, you still feel so much for them. The story arcs that this anime takes you through may be simple, but they are incredibly engaging. Even after 358 episodes, I still felt like I could follow Gunso and the others all over Pekopon for 300 more. Heck, I miss them just writing this review.

I recommend this anime if you'd just like some simple joy in your day. Something funny, something sweet, something light-hearted, to take your mind off of things. Sometimes a little bit chaotic and (lovingly) obnoxious, but enough to make you smile! I loved it so much, I can't believe it's over. Truly a gem of the early 2000s.

Probably one of the most underappreciated animes watched so far. A mix of cartoon and anime at the same time. Literally something what a child like me in my old days that he/she watched.

there are some epsiodes are good and are bad. Artstyle is hard to rate because in the old years the artstyle was very funky and simpistic and as late 2010, it looks very normal and became on-par to other animes, but as far as it goes its really decent because when I look at them more closely they improved as years passby, and I’m proud they really make the anime very ... modern as it is even in an early year of 2010. Similar to their own improvement is “Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy”, which improves animation and quality even Dragon Ball which is another example. Sometimes, there are some that lacks essence mostly the supporting Characters like Garuru and Toruru, but overall they still perform well with VA and animation actions, even if they did less credit in some episodes. I’d give credit for being comedic since this is also a comedic anime to watch.

Enjoyment is really hard to rate as well. THere are times people stopped watching let’s say at the 200th, 19th or at the 37th episode as the next ones where just boring for them, while there are some who completed everything and may give a total result to this. If I would be seeing this experience myself, I’d see this being ok, literally a long way journey to the end of the anime and pretty much want to cherish memories and the laughs you have made to this show, leaving nothing but great moments.

Overall, this is a fine anime to watch, probably one of the longest animes, along with the other 6 movies and shorts. I hope this anime gets more recognition because this is something what japan needs to do when bringing in the throwback animes.

My friend recommended me Seargent Frog, I thought I'd see something lighthearted and a funny comedy, and yes those first few episodes deliver exactly that. Unfortunately, the novelty wears off and it just becomes repetitive and boring. Another big issue is the lack of progression, the characters just don't grow at all throughout the show, the jokes never evolve, and every episode just depends on this same formula. Keroro comes up with a dumb plan, it backfires, cue exaggerated faces, and back to the status quo. This would work for 13 episodes but after 358 episodes it just becomes boring. The humor relies heavily on ... overused slapstick, tired references, and predictable punchlines.

A relic of early-2000s anime filler culture that should have ended long before it did.
