Shoushimin Series

TV Asahi's late night anime programming block which broadcasts on Sundays from 1:30 - 2:00.

In this list, I tried to collect as many shows as possible that are dedicated to the deconstruction of certain genres, plot themes or various characters. Therefore, there are both tragedies like Madoka and Eva, and parodies like KonoSuba or Kaguya.

To qualify for the list, the manga had to be at least 15 years old when the anime came out. Organized in ascending order by length of time between manga and anime. Each manga can only be accounted for once, so no remakes - those go on a separate list.

A show with different kinds of toxic protagonists. However, although not in all cases, MCs often get better as the story progresses.

The included anime contain multiple mysterious cases that are only loosely connected, or not connected at all.

The cases may take more than one episode to get resolved.

Anime in this list have one or more of these characteristics:

- Classic whodunnits
- Investigating, solving a riddle, case-solving
- Police or detectives or detective-like characters solving cases involving murder, theft, etc. with a limited number of suspects.
- Mostly episodic rather than a full series with only one plot/case.
-Some listings with supernatural elements but only if it fits the 'detective' part of it.


Order from least supernatural elements to most

This stack is dedicated to conventionally realistic (not truly surreal) shows, the main theme of which is the interaction of a straight man character or characters with people whose weirdness and eccentricity is so vivid and powerful that it impresses and leaves you confused in your thoughts trying to figure it out.

The compilation is mostly fun-comedy, but shit still happens, so be aware.

A Collection of Shows that have less than average ratings, are often overlooked and are mostly unheard of, but in reality, they are fantastic and sometimes even better than a lot of popular or hyped shows out there. Hopefully, this will bring them some attention.

This stack is for relatively realistic Slice of Life anime that depicts the daily life of the characters quite realistically and lacks excessive moe or other idealization/objectification of the social groups shown. Of course, taking into account the genre and premise of anime. For example, I defined Hibike as realistic since it's a rather visualy metaphorical anime, but didn't include many other CGDCT shows due to the "girl's zoo" premise.

Anime that come out in 2024, for which I'm hyped for and anime that sound interesting, with the date they premiere on.
(The dates are the japanese ones)

This interest stack is focused entirely on anime that take a break from the usual unrealistic, exaggerated, over-the-top tropes commonly found in the average anime show, and instead offer an entire show that's pretty much as realistic as any TV series with real actors.

These anime don't include anything exaggerated, they're as realistic as they get, and therefore they can be great to recommend to people who are not into anime due to the format being too unrealistic or trope-ridden to appeal to them.

A stack dedicated to anime which, while not necessarily being sad, combine all of their elements to create a world, atmosphere and story that transmits a deep feeling of melancholy to the audience. Most of these could be defined with the Japanese term "mono no aware": an appreciation of the fleeting nature of beauty.

Many of these anime are quite similar in feel, even though their plots, characters and else might be entirely different. Many are set in small(er) towns with lots of natural beauty, they have touching soundtracks, lots of character development, many bittersweet moments, beautiful visuals and an overall heavy, well-built atmosphere.

These are highly recommended for those who like stories that rely on more than just cheap tear-jearking sadness to cause an emotional reaction on the viewer; these will make you feel nostalgia, melancholy, sadness, and an odd sense of solace, and they're likely to stay in your memory for a long time after you finished them.
