Synopsis

After the decline of the once robust fields of science and technology, a new energy source known as magic fuels the modern era. Humanity creates forbidden biological weapons: Gears. Those Gears eventually stand against humanity in a rebellion. Although they manage to overcome in the struggle for survival known as the Crusades, humanity's losses are so great that even after several decades pass, their emotional wounds remain unable to fully heal.

Sin Kiske, the child of a human and a Gear, heads to his father Ky and mother Dizzy's wedding ceremony. Their wedding breaks the ultimate taboo: a union between a human and a Gear. Even with the world at peace, it took many years for such a ceremony to come to fruition. Despite the complex array of emotions surrounding it, the wedding ceremony is met with blessings. When suddenly, a mysterious girl appears... The fated child inheriting Gear blood–and the mysterious girl who despises Gears. Their meeting would shake the world.

It's perfectly aight. The characters are real goofy and over the top but likeable and the dynamics between characters is interesting and deep. The characters are the best part of this show. My favorite is the relation between Sol and Sin. It has a real mentor-kid dynamic and I love how non-verbal it is. You don't need to be told to see the layers and how each of their personalities rub against each other. Good stuff.

You can tell this was made on a budget as they rely heavily on zoomed in faces and still shots. But the 3D is really good and they do ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (3/8 eps)
To be straight, you'll get the most enjoyment out of this anime if you're familiar with Guilty Gear or have played -Strive- at least. If not then the show is not for you.

Animation/Visuals - 10/10: The 3D and 2.5D from XRD and Strive are a beautiful step up from the games storymode

Story - 7/10: The plot is a bit cookie cutter or cliche, resistance lonewolf character vs progressive outgoing character, Unika can be a little bit over the top and can rub off as corny sometimes

Characters - 10/10: For those who bash on Sin likely have no clue about his lore, Sin is canonically ...

When I give a 1 out of 10, I generally put it in one of two categories:
1. It's completely devoid of worth. There is 0 reason to seek this out unless you are a DIEHARD completionist, looking for the worst anime regardless of entertainment value, or you're a masochist. This would be something like, say, FLCL Grunge.
2. It may have SOME value (although generally speaking, not much) but it pisses me off so bad that it doesn't matter, the bad outweighs the good by too far a factor for it to get even a 2. This is more subjective but I've had this happen to ...
