The Red Ranger, Tougo Asagaki, finds himself transported to another world in the middle of a fierce battle against forces of evil. Upon arriving, he quickly makes a name for himself as an adventurer and takes on a job from a young mage named Yihdra Arvoln. With his eccentric powers and frenzied personality, Tougo blazes through the mission with her.

After the quest, Tougo and Yihdra begin adventuring together with their respective goals. Tougo strives to help as many as possible in the new world and find a way back home, while Yihdra desires to redeem her family lineage of mages and make magic accessible to everyone. Along their journey, the duo discover the limitations yet endless potential of the bonds they forge as they overcome adversities to achieve their aspirations.

Hey, you love Power Rangers/Super Sentai? You love Isekai? Well, I got just a thing for you because this one is a combination of both. Before we start this review, I will get this out of the way that I'm not too big on the Isekai genre since there are just loads of them. I know they are popular among some corners of the anime community, but I try hard not to watch too many of them since most of them would be generic. Well, last year, I've seen the Suicide Squad Isekai anime and thought that was fine. ... With the last Isekai that I've seen involving this middle-aged online shopper and did not enjoy that one. With this one, as I am a Power Ranger/Super Sentai fan, I thought this one was solid. Now, don't get me wrong, this is both crony from the Power Rangers/Super Sentai side of things and cheesy as Isekai standards goes, but I think where they were going worked a fair bit. Sure, it has a couple of issues that I will point out as I am writing this review.
So we begin our anime with the Kizuna Five fighting the evil supervillain called the Breakup King and his force known as the Relationship Enders, whose goal is to suck the bonding energy of humanity. Kizuna Red, or his name being Togo Asagaki, is forced to fight the Breakup King alone yet wakes up in a fantasy world after an explosion during his fight. Cut six months later, Togo arrives at the mansion where Yihdra Arvoln lives and passes this test against her golem. Afterwards, Togo is hired by Yihdra to help gather some mana metal in some ruins which led to some of the material getting charred by his explosive attacks. She shares her story that her father was a former Royal Scepter, or a court mage with a dream of using magic to make people happy, yet he was defeated and him and his family were exiled from the capital they resided in. It motivated Togo so much that he motivated Yihdra enough to believe in herself as well as their newfound friendship as they were fighting a dragon that was guarding a large supply of mana metal with the help of the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser that's fueled by the power of bonds that Togo and Yihdra had to pour in since they are the only two people in it. Later after the fight, Yihdra decides to form an adventuring party with Togo so she could study his powers, help him find a way for him to go back home and find a way to get back the Royal Scepter from the one who'd defeated her father.
During their adventures, they encounter some humans who are infected with these mana seeds that were explained by the princess, Teltina Liz Wagrel Alvarost, and her bodyguard, Lowji Mist. To their surprise, the humans who were given these mana seeds from the Demon Queen's children, whose goal is to harvest mana from the humans and unseal their mother. After all of that was resolved, they were summoned by Teltina's father, Emperor Gunti, to discuss the mana seeds that are rapidly spreading. Her brother, Prince Dariel, who despises his sister with a passion, suggests that instead of Teltina destroying the seeds with the use of her own demonic seed that can summon a wolf called Vrykolakas, they would gather the seeds and have Shau'ha work on a way to weaponize them to fight against the Demon Queen if she is ever awaken. The emperor agrees with his son's proposal and sends the adventuring party to meet up with the elves living in the Sun Forest, with Teltina and Lowji tagging along.
As they arrived, Yihdra gets kidnapped and Togo goes to save her while Teltina and Lowji had to fight off some elves along with an elf named Raniya, who uses a device that's similar to Togo to turn into an Egyptian-themed Kamen Rider called Amen. Thankfully, Togo and Yihdra return and asks them to stop, which they do, and make the elves see Togo in his Kizuna Red suit as a return of a red-themed hero who would save them like the original otherworldly hero who teamed up with Raniya's ancestor had done. As they arrive and discover the mural that resides in their village, Raniya explains that they are at war and the adventuring party agrees to help her and her village out. I mean, at the least they would have time to kill since the village elder is in hibernation and cannot wake for years.
I know I might've already explained so much, yet this is pretty much a three-arc style series with each new character being introduced and they're caught up with the same goal of either preventing the Demon Queen to awaken or preparing for when she awakens and they would have to fight the queen and her demon army. Not to mention, we do get some background with each of the characters. This might be my mixed thought, but it involves the backstory of Togo, his family and his time back on Earth when he's part of the Kizuna Five, fighting off the Relationship Enders. It's cool that we see it all happen, but if I have to be honest, they can be a bit distracting. It's cool the first few times and I do like some of those moments. Especially when the other Kizuna Rangers are treated like they're on the sidelines of things. I couldn't help but think that I'm watching something separate from the anime itself. Of course, it does have that way of focusing more on Togo and we see everyone else's backstory in several episodes. Despite such, I think the pacing for how they do with the story is decent. I would also have to admit that the final episode was a tad rushed. But I digress.
What makes the story worth it was the chemistry. Both Togo and Yihdra have great chemistry. Especially when it comes to how much they spend time at the capital and Shau'hi, who I accidentally forgotten that she was the one who'd beaten Yihdra's father, was mocking Yihdra and her dreams, making Togo stand up to her. Sure, there is that rushed sequence where she runs off and Togo had to catch up to her to share his standpoint with both Yihdra and Shau'ha when it comes to magic as a whole. Raniya and Teltina are good characters for where their goals are headed. The Demon Queen's children are fun villains. Azir, who was a friend of Raniya was nice, especially for what his goal was as well for what he has in storage along with what he'd obtained. The main character that I honestly am not a fan of is Lowji. I know he's written to be an ungrateful douchebag, but I think they were on the nose on making him hard to like or despise. Even when Lowji either helps out or when Togo helps him, he just can't admit his appreciation at all. I mean, would you imagine Shadow the Hedgehog questioning Lowji's character. Speaking of his character, I find his approach towards Teltina a little creepy. I get she'd helped him out of the gutter, but he acts like that character that says, "Notice me, senpai." His English voice actor makes him even more obnoxious, if you ask me. Actually, his Japanese actor makes him unlikable, too. Speaking of the rest of the cast, I've seen this anime twice in both Japanese and English. The Japanese version was fine and English was okay. Ethan Condon as Togo's English actor fits. I'm mixed with Natalie Van Sistine who voiced Yihdra while Konomi Inagaki in Japanese was better. Teltina voiced by Bryn Apprill in English and Minami Tanaka are great fits. Marwa Elda in English and Haruka Shiraishi do well as Raniya as well as Amen VII when she transforms. With the Demon Queen's children, I love them both. With the rest of the Kizuna Five, they're fine.
Then we have the animation, which I have to say looks great, in my honest opinion. I would also like to add that the CG animation that was used in the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser looks and moves great. I know not everyone likes CG animation. I will say that plenty of us are just not a fan of bad CG animation. What was used here is certainly on top of the best CG animation. The designs of the Kizuna Five, as much as they're as themed as any other Power Ranger/Super Sentai would be themed around, look nice and simple. Amen's design whenever Raniya and -REDACTED- transforms look cool as they are based on Kamen Rider. Even have their own Rider Kicks and Forms like you'd see from Kamen Rider as a whole. The action sequences are drawn well whether it's by Power Ranger/Kamen Rider standards or magical standards with both the magic Yihdra casts and the holy sword that Lowji wield.
Overall, I know some things feel in the way and a couple of things that I wasn't too fond of, but this was a solid series. Yes, it's corny and cheesy at the same time. However, some Isekai I would find be fair to be interested in like I've done for the Suicide Squad Isekai anime last year. As that ending goes, I'm interested in where it goes from there. I'd be down to see a second season whenever it comes around. For the moment, I'm gonna give this Power Ranger Isekai anime eight explosions happening behind Kizuna Red as he transforms and strikes a pose, while Yihdra gets yeeted out of ten. 8/10.

the idea is intriguing at least to me

power ranger in isekai world was giving me full of question like what will happen if foreign power was used in another world? or like because of that hes overpowered?? and also questioning myself what kind of plot they going on this and the result was entertaining to watch for sure lol but ven though the plot was entertaining it wasn't exactly good either its just ok i guess, specially on the near end of season wasn't much of an impact to me honestly, the anime is shouting itself WE NEED MORE SEASON and i agree with that ... , romance is also there turns into double date adventures but still lacking on mc's side though WE NEED MOAR ROMANCE DEVELOPMENT!

if you like isekai and you know atleast power ranger or etc.. you might like this and you will be having fun cause its like watching 4th wall for power ranger lol but still overall its way too lacking dont know how to express thi but alteast in drama side is lacking?

“The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World” is what happens when a wacky idea meets generic writing.

The show starts off pretty cool. Something wacky, over the top and with a lot, I mean A LOT, of potential. It ends as a boring, stale, “you’ve seen it a million times”, generic isekai. Shame, but after the disappointments of the last decade I really shouldn’t be surprised.

Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same ... page…
I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them:
“What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.”
“STORY is about how the things that happen affect someone in pursuit of a difficult goal, and how that person changes internally as a result”.

Let’s be honest. Anyone who knows anime, light novels and some cheap movies, could tell from episode one what kind of protag we get. Every damn time when I see an MC (this time it’s Red) who is OP AF, is optimistic and acts like a try hard comic relief, he also has a tragic, generic, sad backstory. Especially if that MC is a comic relief despite bringing in an objectively shitty situation. If you didn’t get that at the very most episode 3, You are either new to anime, or You’re a damn liar. The thing is, his backstory didn’t make me sympathize with him, it made me just despise the organization (Yes, I will call it an organization, they have their own HQ and at least one R&D wing with at least one personnel so it’s not like it’s a bunch of kinds in a tree house),he is working for — The Kizuna Five. But I’ll get to that.

So yeah, the story… there is none. Seriously. Red just rolls with whatever the wind blows his way (is that the saying? I’m not sure). By the time we see Red in the new world it has already been 6 months after his transportation. He became an adventurer that just does jobs to survive. That’s it. It is stated in the very first episode that he spent time searching for a way to get back home right after he arrived and that he saw probably most of the world and witnessed people's plight. Ok, fine. Give me that. That sounds like a much better story than the crap this show serves for the next 12 episodes. I want to see a protagonist that has a goal and is motivated to achieve it. I don’t want to see him as a passive, optimistic comic relief. I want a proper protagonist with a proper story, not another passive moron. And don’t give me that “It’s a parody so it doesn’t need a story or logic”, eff off, just eff off. If You really think that then You probably never experienced a proper parody or satire (they are not the same) in Your life.

If You’re expecting the plot will pick up the slack… it does… in the last two episodes. Before that You get 10 episodes of absolute cliché. There is not one original thought in this show. Now, that alone isn’t such a big problem, a lot of anime use cliché ideas, it all depends on the execution of those ideas and this show… well… on one side it actually fits the super sentai vibe, on the other it just adds to the flatness and no stake state of the whole show. You have to defeat a giant monster? Use a giant robot with a giant sword. You have to defeat another giant monster but can’t use the giant robot? Use a giant gun. You need to kick the ass of powerful, human size enemies? Punch it in the face. You need to take care of two uber powerful enemies at the same time? Use a powerup that was stuck up Your ass for the whole time. You see a pattern? Every enemy is taken care of by brute force and nothing else, even if that makes little sense. But You know… the power of friendship is definitely powered by violence.

In the spirit of super sentai / power rangers Red has access to a giant robot. You know the type, the type that is created by combining 5 smaller robots that are piloted by other members of the team. The problem? Why the fuck Red can use it solo? He can summon all five robots and combine them at will. No need for other people with morphers. He can summon any one of them. We see him summon red and blue on their own. If he can use it solo why the fuck have a whole team? One person would be easier to control than 5 so it would be easier for their bosses to have a powerful weapon on a tight leash. Apart from fighting mobs there is no point in having a 5 member team if just one is enough to use the most powerful weapon. Give me some kind of explanation for that.
On the subject of robots. He can summon them. His team back home is aware of the fact that the robots were deployed and yet… not one of those morons thought of... I don’t know… leaving a fucking note in the cockpit? A simple sticky note with the words “Hey, Red are You ok?” in the middle of a damn controler? No? Just me? Ok. I can believe Red hasn't thought of that, he is a moron, but others? Blue seems to be smart and yellow is a damn teacher. Guess despite having advanced robots and weapons at their disposal a sticky note is beyond their technology tree. They could communicate in that way and at least try to solve the isekai problem.

I’m not sure if Red is dumber than I thought, is suicidal (well… he is but that’s another things) or just brain washed but Kizuna 5 team is more than just a little villainous. I mean… they use kids as soldiers. Not only that but Red has clearly PTSD and it seems not one person on his FIVE people team thought that maybe he should get some off time for therapy? It’s not like the morphers can be used only by one person. They are recruited from the population so anyone can use them, why don’t they have 2-3 full size teams that rotate the use of the morphers? That way everyone can get proper debriefing, psychological help and some much needed time off. Red lost his parents, the girl he probably had a crush on died basically in his arms and Kizuna 5 did jack shit for him. I would understand this if it was a case of “Only the chosen one can use this device”, but it’s not. Yeah… let’s have a traumatised kid with deadly weapons and WMD just hop back to situations that might induce more trauma. What can go wrong? Seriously these guys have some shitty bonds.

The best part of the show is Yihdra (the female lead). She starts out awesome. An idealistic, pretty naive mage with a boner for R&D. She wants to study Red’s power to create a new type of magic. I’m all for it. So why the fuck she drops it almost immediately after getting the quest from the princess? I get that without a proper lab her options are limited but even on the road she should be able to do some basic research. Over the whole show she does exactly one thing that could be interpreted as research and development and the damn thing works from the get go. No miscasts or failures. She’s such a wasted potential. A logical, methodical character turned a jealous girl in love. That’s just pathetic.
Remember when I said there is no story? That was half a lie. There is a story but not Red’s. The story mainly revolves around Yihdra and how she matures both as a woman and a mage. She sheds off some of her naivete and even learns to be honest with her feelings. Those are all good story beats. The problem? The show treats all of them as either after thought of just background.

That said, I can understand why some people would give this show a high score. It is almost like a love letter to both fantasy and super sentai. It uses a lot of cliches and tropes from both. From the power of friendship to get powerups, being used by royalty, getting sent on a fetch quest only to get more than You bargained for and gathering powerful allies like they are pokemon. Yes, they are cliches and I despise cliches but I understand that I’m in the minority on that front. If this show wasn’t so safe and sterile I would probably like it despite the bad writing.
But as it stands I only recommend the first and last 3 episodes. The rest is just boring stuff you saw a million times. At least it's not a harem.
