Both series have a self-contained story episodic style, along with an over arch slow paced story where the main characters grow as the story progresses and they make new friends and meet new people, and every interaction or situation developes the MC in some way. Natsume Yuujinchou is more slice of life with the fantasy element being the youkai, but it also has some more "adventure" focused stories. I get a similar feeling of wholesomeness from both of them. Fun fact, Natsume (main character) was also supposed to have gray hair and green eyes based on the manga, just like Frieren.

Both shows are about Mages that excel in magic practices and travel across whimsical landscapes filled with stories of their own, where you see humanity's cultures and morality.

Both are (in some form; & involuntary in Kino's Journey's case) the sequels to their relative prequels. (Though this iteration of Kino's Journey is more a "'the best of' anthology." with the majority of the stories succeeding past the main stay series). Re-Iterating that these are anthological anime that centre around a vagabond traveller(s) who explores land to land bearing witness to the society and occasionally lending their help to the people; whilst learning about their culture & their plight. Both are sequels to their relative prequels. Re-Iterating that these are anthological anime that centre around a traveller(s) who explores land to land bearing witness and occasionally lending their help to the people. Mushishi & Frieren perfectly encapsulates the Iyashikei genre with a world full of fauna, landscapes and its people; where its storylines in the lands that they visit are part of a collective anthologies in the overall world building. Stories that serve to incite the feeling of healing & serenity whether it is emotional or spiritual. Frieren's journey has a more focused adventure, whilst Ginko's leans more towards the research of the mythical phenomena  read more
