Ore wa Seikan Kokka no Akutoku Ryoushu!

This anime held my interest from the very first episode. The backstory of the main character was delivered at just the right pace: neither too long nor too short-making his wish to become an “evil lord” feel completely justified.

The MC isn’t overpowered from the start. In fact, he begins at the very bottom, in a situation where most would fall into despair. Instead of wasting time with long episodes of depression or endless self-reflection, the anime paces itself well and shows the MC confronting his circumstances directly.

Character design and personalities are well balanced. While the MC can be somewhat gullible, he never allows his naivety ... to become a liability, consistently making the right decisions. Unlike many protagonists in similar series, he is not portrayed as overly merciful to villains. Liam understands when to spare and when to kill, which keeps the stakes meaningful.

Despite the title, don’t be misled ,there’s little actual “evil” in Liam’s actions. He deeply values his people and the populace under him.

As for romance, while it isn’t the main focus, it’s handled surprisingly well. There’s enough to satisfy viewers seeking a subplot of love, and it even delivers a stronger buildup and payoff than many shows dedicated entirely to romance. The relationship develops naturally, and the payoff is clear by the final episode.

I’ve read that this season adapts only the first volume of the light novel out of ten, meaning there’s plenty more material left. Hopefully, we’ll get a second season. That said, even if no continuation arrives, the first season stands well on its own and is satisfying in its execution.

Unlike most isekai or reincarnation stories, this one doesn’t rely on overused tropes like harem antics, excessive despair, or dragged-out character suffering. Liam isn’t a shy teenager who struggles to express himself-he’s bold, caring, and courageous enough to openly admit his feelings.

Overall, I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire! is a wholesome and refreshing entry in the isekai/reincarnation genre. It has everything: action, romance, character growth-but all in just the right amounts.

It’s alright. Not amazing, but definitely not trash either.

What really threw me off was the first episode. It opens with a five-minute fight scene that’s never mentioned again. Maybe it’s meant to happen after the final episode? If that’s the case, why put it at the beginning? It feels like a random teaser, and it doesn’t make sense. It’s not really a spoiler since it has zero impact on the plot, but it is annoying because you end up meeting characters before the story actually introduces them.

That said, one thing I did enjoy was the humour. I didn’t expect to like it, but it actually ... landed for me.

I completed this crap so that nobody can say "how can you review it if you didn't finish it" (which is masochist bs, why would I have to finish eating s... when I need one bite to know it tastes like s...?).

What I liked:
- nothing. Not one single minuscule infinitesimal thing.

What I particularly disliked:
- the retro art that makes this look like if someone who ever only watched Captain Harlock decided to make an anime.
- the fact that it feels like a parody and would actually be reasonably entertaining IF it was a parody, but it's just an action comedy that fails at both the ... action and the comedy aspects.
- the robots moving like zombies with Parkinson and making that PATHETIC noise at every step and even while slowly raising their arms. I grew up with Great Mazinger (yes, I am that old) and it was MUCH more modern that this s... FFS, it's a 2025 production, we already have robots that can dance, make backflips, run, and all of that close to silently. WHO TF GREENLIT THIS BS!?
- the gross and vulgar fanservice which in the r...etro mind of the writer should probably be funny. Unbelievable.
- the pedo elements, inverted in comparison to Rudeus, which makes me wonders how tf do isekai writers manage to always find a demented justification for their perversion? Rudeus was allegedly right in screwing kids because he was in a kid's body, and this dude here is right in screwing a (synth) woman at 5 y/o because he's 40 inside? FO
- the supposedly funny recurrent "gag" of how he constantly gets tricked/cheated by everybody, and how with a cheap "comedy of misunderstandings" he turns most of that cheating at his advantage.
- yet another fake evil dude who keeps being a nice guy saving others. What a LAME trope.
- how virtually EVERYBODY apart for his main maid is insufferable.

The fact that this is an isekai deeply pisses me off because I love the genre so much and yet it seems like if Japanese writers use it as their personal WC and training ground where to experiment all their shittiest ideas.
STOP MESSING WITH ISEKAI!!!!!! There are so many genres that you can fuck up!!! Pick another one!
