Toujima Tanzaburou wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai

Just cool, if you like baki you will probably like this.

It also has some added context humour but it is mostly about being cool. I 100% stand behind their fights, they look cool, they feel cool and that is the only thing that matter for animes like these, one of the best animes of this season which sadly isnt getting enough attention.

I think a lot of the criticism you can give this series falls flat when it is not trying to be what the people that hate it wants it to be, it is just cool fights with cool characters, thats all.

THIS IS THE TYPE OF ANIME THAT MAKES ME WANNA GO OUT AND DUKE IT OUT WITH EVIL DOER, A BIBLICALLY ACCURATE DEPICTION OF KAMEN RIDER FANS

Just when I thought there's no Kamen Rider media that can ever top Fuuto Pi, this anime came in clutch and stands equal on Its side.

Easily the freshest TV anime currently airing this season, we can fight if you disagree.

A show that is so "out of there" that I can't even compare it to anything other than that it has Kamen Rider in it.

The story is about four adults who just love Kamen Rider so much that they actually ... BECAME THEM, and I'm not just talking about heart and soul. These motherfuckers are throwing flying tornado kicks left and right, casually judo-throwing a bear and uppercutting people into the sky.

In short, it's very wacky and unserious at times. In fact, most of the time. It keeps getting wackier each episode, and at times it can even catch you off guard. Watching this blindly is almost like a religious experience to me because of how unpredictable everything is. I already set myself up knowing what would and could happen in this anime, judging only by the synopsis, only to get my face slapped with a sudden new plot in just two episodes. It's like a gift that keeps on giving, but instead of a gift it's just brain fuckery.

But beneath all that wackiness and randomness, it also has a heartfelt message about how you shouldn't throw your passion and hobby away no matter how old you get, no matter how dumb it is. PASSION IS A GIFT. Well, I wouldn't suggest you follow the route any of these characters take and become a Kamen Rider and start pounding random robbers along the way, but the point is never let the kid in you die because at least they are Kamen Rider fans. Imagine if they were Ultraman fans. You can't really will an extra 93 ft into existence no matter how wacky it is.

The fight scenes are amazing. Every punch, kick and throw looks like it was a critical hit, and they are also riddled with nosebleeds, tears and sweat. AND I MEAN IT. Those tears be tearing, that sweat be sweating and that blood be bleeding. ITS very clear that the creator was an action manga author judging by the direction.

The animation is also amazing. I wouldn't say it's flawless, but the flaw is either too unimportant to mention or just downright overshadowed by the dopamine overload that this anime throws at you. The art style they chose is a bit off though. It feels like it doesn't really suit the overall atmosphere of the anime. It has that "watch your ass boy" type of art style that just feels like it's a Junji ITO manga adaptation, but it doesn't really matter because everything happening on the screen is too distracting.

All the characters are so interesting, so well Made and distinct from each other. The way they interact is also very humorous. It feels like I'm looking at kids fighting to decide which one is going to be the Hero and which one is going to be the villain. The dialogue is very, very corny and it gave me secondhand embarrassment sometimes, but holy shit man, I love every second of it.

The OST, absolute fucking banger. The OP is amazing, the ending is good, and each character got a remake of the theme song of the Kamen Rider they represent. AND HOLY FUCK that's amazing, I wanna kiss anyone who suggested that idea.

This anime also has a lot of fanservice and I am a fan of being serviced, so it's always a welcomed addition, tasteful shots and HONKERS jumpscares. That thang JIGGLES in the most correct way possible. The story may put my heart in the right place, but goddamn this part puts my eyes in the wrong place.

Overall, a very, very enjoyable anime. Not really recommended to folks who are not familiar with Kamen Rider, although you can probably still enjoy it. There might be a lot of detail, references and funny bits that you might miss, and also the corny dialogue may kill you before the third episode, so keep that in mind.

Got interested with the first episode.
Though the past part of the main character wasn't that interesting, it explained his root while finishing with the life-changing moment that he waited all his life in an animation good enough to pump you up into the story.
In retrospect, I can understand that it was actually pretty good because it let behind the explanation on the main lead right away, allowing to get how he is and his excitation to the watcher without feeling left behind at the climax of the same episode.

Unfortunately, from there on, it just falls down.
The whole past episode just keeps on popping on ... others characters that randomly appears and have mostly the same problem the Mc had and since there is 4 of them you can guess that it takes a whole lot of time to go with each of their pasts.
You do have a bit of action on the way but guess what? You do have the past arc again on the way to explain the motivation of the character involved even so.
As such, in 9 episodes, all the happenings could be put into 2 episodes as easily.
I am not against explaining character's roots but the whole anime title does have the main character, allegedly, name in it for a reason, and yet it doesn't feel as if he is the main character but rather that they all take turn without adding anything to the actual story.

Going on with the anime, it is obvious that this is a writing problem rather than a simple development one.
The fact is that dialogue as a whole is basically the same tone for all characters, there is a way too much comic relief, the story doesn't take itself seriously, the development is slow and frankly mostly pointless most of the time.
It doesn't feel as watching a story but rather adults having fun in their kamen rider trip with a lot of noises on the delivery.

The easiest way to relay my experience with the anime is that you do have 5 fun minutes every 90 minutes of utter boringness.
Whether you see it as worthwhile or not is your decision. I've made mine.
