These are some pretty good psychological anime series and movies.. Some are new and some are a little older. Enjoy!

This collection of series, movies and shorts represent a specific mood, expressed within the anime media. Their pace is most likely slow, and are usually focused at the complex emotional web that surrounds the worlds and characters that are within them.

In each of them the feelings which are translated onto the viewer are those of comfort, but also anxiety, affection, as well as sorrow. The balance and the depth in which they are presented varies from show to show as well as from the personal perception and worldview that each viewer has. Their main unity point is that they tuck on our heartstrings and provokes our empathy towards the unwinding chaos and turmoil.

These selected series presents us relatable, even if based on fiction stories - which even within it's bleakness and darkness, holds a silver of hope and warmth or which conceals within their bright and vivid colors sublime, gentle, but ever present feelings of despair and sadness.

Anime that can completely change your perspective on life.

Shinigami, Death Gods, Grim Reapers - personifications of Death itself. Those who decide when and how humans will die, harvest souls, and/or ferry the recently departed to the land of the dead. Such legends have persisted across cultures around the world for centuries. This stack collects anime which feature shinigami.

Tomomi Mochizuki is a Japanese storyboard artist, screenwriter, and director, known for having collaborated with leading animation studios such as Studio Ghibli, Nippon Animation, Pierrot, and Sunrise. He sometimes uses the alias Gō Sakamoto when writing screenplays or working on storyboards.

"Dark Iyashikei" is a term that I have been using for about a decade to refer to anime with slow, contemplative, and iyashikei aspects coupled with a dark atmosphere.

A collection of anime that delve into distorted, existential, and sometimes even melancholic realities. Works that explore emptiness, the surreal, and the symbolic in unique ways, always leaving something to think about after they're over.

Anime that don't cover the entire story of the source material. If you want to know how the story ends, you have to read the source. For this stack, I'll only count anime whose source material has finished and properties that have yet to receive a complete adaptation, which means series like the 2001 Hellsing TV show or the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist adaptation won't be included. If a series here later gets a complete adaptation, it may disappear from this stack as well.
