| Following this format we should get to see Fugo alone next. I think the format of exploring each character by separating them from the group while keeping a fast pace is pretty effective. For the time being we finally got to see Aerosmith, as well as how Narancia behaves alone. My point of interest was the solidification of Narancia pulling out his knife without hesitation as a pattern or running gag. Specifically the fact that he has never acted on his threats making them empty. Perhaps he is more bark than bite, full of bravado unless pushed to act, and that may be what his tendency is suggesting. Lastly, I'd like to mention something meta. I had heard somewhat often the idea that Giorno was a boring protagonist. My experience with him is entirely contrary to that, he has the chops to be one of my favorites. My two favorite JoJo characters are Jonathan and Dio after all, but beyond personal preference, he has a strong first act. A backstory, a proactive mission, moral complexities and potential hypocrisies, he has a lot going on. The reason for my first sentences is that I can see where he may fall off. His introverted and goal oriented demeanor makes him fall into the background of a rowdy crew of misfits, similar to Kakyoin. It makes me think that he can be as great of a character as the story allows him to be by focusing on him. But if he lacks the focus he began the story with, he could feel underwhelming. It makes me interested in seeing his role as the story goes forward. |
