Aight, I give up on trying to get this into the news discussion.
I know why it was rejected the first time, that was my bad.
I don't get the second time, though. The only posting rule I could figure that would be 'broken' by that is the first one, but to avoid doing that I made it into a quotation. I suppose I should've written something like "Full Article" instead of Source?

Well anyways, Shigofumi along with True Tears have been licensed by Bandai Visual USA.
Both series just started broadcasting in Japan in the first week of January, and Bandai Visual USA says that their North American DVD releases will follow their Japanese DVD releases by only two months.

It's too bad BandaiVisual has no idea how to price things in the US market.

Agreed, $40 for two episodes of dubless Diebuster. I'm not an economics major but why would the price go up if you are getting less? I think the dubless anime is a good idea but that doesn't make sense.
I just hope that they produce the DVD of Shigofumi quickly, I'd like to own it already.

Yes indeed, $269,93 is rather expensive even for 7 DVD's.
They should at least release them with 4 episodes on each imo. Then the $39.99 would be more reasonable.

That's all very well and fine, but have you seen how Bandai is trying to rip off the consumer? Both series are 13 episodes, yet are going to be released on 7 DVDS! 2 episodes on a DVD?? Come on! That's a rip off, plain and simple, taking into account each costs over $20. I hope consumers wise up and vote with their wallets - by keeping them firmly closed.

No wonder R1 is so messed up. They want to ban fansubs, then pull stunts like this, geared only to line their pockets as much as possible - and with typicaly poor Bandai pachaging too boot. I seriously hope Bandai end up going the way of Geneon and (maybe) ADV. We don't need people like them exploiting the market.

ok, rant over.

Noes!
2 Episodes / DvD = phail
Price = phail
Possible funky Dub = phail

The 2 episodes per DvD is only understandable if they had only saw the 1st two episodes and think that the plot will go on 2 Episodes per "letter".

Maybe they're trying to copy Japan with the 2 episodes on a DVD and awfully high prizes.

In no time we'll see all anime DVD's with these prizes, and they'll still be selling like mad!

Shigofumi was awesome too. I wouldn't mind buying the show but the price is too steep (more steep than Blood +). I applaud speed releases but man...

I suppose that would stop reverse imports into Japan if they were released cheaply in the US, but we're not in Japan, so to apply a Japanese business model is already dooming it to failure, plus if I do a quick currency conversion - it works out cheaper for me to a buy a Wii here than one of the 13 episode series.

I can tell you why they're doing it this way. But I still don't think it will sell though.

R2 DVD releases in Japan have always been 2-3 episodes per disk. What this is going to be is almost a direct copy of the R2 release, except for translating the menus and adding the English subtitle track. Hopefully all the extras that come with the R2 release are still included.

Having a "Japanese pricepoint" of $40 MSRP is so it doesn't hurt their home market. Otherwise Japanese Otaku might wait 2 months for the R1 release and import it for much cheaper. Or they see how American anime fans are cheap jerks already with shows losing money left and right. (Look at Geneon going under and ADV in trouble) and want to test the waters of making anime a "premium Otaku" item in both markets.

And FYI for those that don't know: Back in the VHS days they only came with 2 episodes a tape as well. It was generally $30 for dub tapes and $35 for the sub tapes. So really this would be rather similar to oldschool prices of the early 90s and before. Except hopefully with extras.

IMHO it sucks, but this is what you get for thinking buying R1 DVDs doesn't matter, that your money doesn't matter. I guess it did matter and now it's too late.
