In the end, we understood , that's just the kind of film it is. Time has been kind to its look: softly aged, beautifully drawn, gently directed. It carries a nostalgia I shouldn’t feel—I never lived in the Showa era, yet something about it aches like memory. My friend hated Mutou, couldn't see why the main character held on. But maybe... that’s love. He doesn’t realize he loves her until it’s already too late. The signs are there—photos, guilt, the quiet care—but he keeps asking himself why he stays, why she gets to him. And that’s what struck me. Love isn’t loud or logical. It’s sacrifice in silence. It’s fighting, hurting, staying. It’s not knowing why, only feeling. You waver, you push them away, and still... you return. His heart knew before he did. His friend saw it before he could. Maybe the story could've been sharper, but it spoke to me in whispers I couldn't ignore. And for that, I love it.
Score: 8/10 on MAL. Finished on 9th August 2025, 18:16 Hrs IST.

Wow. I was not expecting the only ghibli without a dub to end up being in my top 3. I REALLY liked this. By far the most underrated ghibli (even though is is actually impossible for a ghibli to be underrated)
8/10. 3rd best ghibli.
