Yes, I know Japan is 98.5% Japanese, but it still irks me when I'm watching an anime about the entire world and everyone in the world looks the same. I also think that including characters of non-Japanese cultures could open the doors for a lot of creative story telling possibilities.

Here's a list of titles that have been mentioned listed alphabetically:

Afro Samurai (black)
Anne no Nikki (jewish) +
Basquash (black)
Berserk (middle eastern)
Black Butler (indian)
Black Lagoon (black)
Bleach (latino, south asian)
Blood+ (European)
Cowboy Bebop (black, turkish, native american)
Deadman Wonderland (Multiple)
Durarara (Russian, black)
El Cazador De La Bruja (Hispanic)
Emma: A Victorian Romance (indian)
Eureka Seven (black, ?)
Excel Saga (columbian)
Freedom (black) +
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Multiple)
Gankutsuou (catalan)
Genesis of Aquarion (hispanic)
Gokudou-kun Manyuuki (dark skinned)
Gosick (arab, mixed)
Gungrave (black?)
Hunter x Hunter (black)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012) (many races)
Jormungand (black) *
Kaleido Star (?)
Memories (german)
Michiko to Hatchin (black, latino)
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (black, portuguese) +
Monster (german)
Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit (variety)
Nadia: Secret of Blue Water (black, atlantian)
No.6 (many implied)
Phantom Memory Kurau (central american)
Planetes (indian, south asian)
Please Save My Earth (mixed)
Pokemon Best Wishes (black)
Robotech (black)
Rocket Girls (solomon islander)
Rockman.EXE Stream (native american)
Samurai 7 (black or iranian)
Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Black, possibly European)
Space Brothers (many races) *
Taiyou no Ko Esteban (?)
Tamako Market (pacific islander)
Tenjou Tenge (black)
Terra e... (black) +
Tenpou Ibun: Ayakashi Ayashi (aztec)
Tiger & Bunny (black) +
Yugo the Negotiator (pakistani) +

+ best examples
* some racial stereotyping

Eureka 7 is noteworthy in this regard as is Kaleido Star.

Let's also not forget Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood which has several different nations are representative of real races, such as the Ishvalans.

Is this just about the anime featuring non-white characters? There are plenty of ambiguously brown characters around.

Also, did you deliberately not add Cowboy Bebop and LOGH? http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1350501&show=20#msg37978224

Of course not.

But is Cowboy Bebop racially diverse or just racist? What's this I hear about a "watermelon and drugs" episode? Regarding LOGH, I probably glossed over that one because I didn't feel like looking up what the abbreviation meant.

Then, from our common list, Memories should also count. The characters from Magnetic Rose are named Heintz, Miguel, Eva and Carlo and Stink Bomb has both japanese and american characters.

Eh, i don't remember exactly, neither that scene, nor other minor characters, but i guess that being a sci-fi, the many episodic characters they encounter are pretty diverse.

Regarding LOGH, I probably glossed over that one because I didn't feel like looking up what the abbreviation meant.

They're very useful.

SAO is #2 popularity, and LOGH is #7 rating, so it's not like they are super obscure abbreviations; if you're interested in Anime Discussion, these titles come up frequently enough to be worth abbreviating them.

That reminds me... Monster. It has several non-stereotypical German characters.

Jormungand?

Though some could argue it falls more on the stereotypical side.

Alright, so some of the racial stereotyping in Space Brothers is annoying me.

An Indian character who's undergoing astronaut training is also a fortune teller. For perspective, this is equivalent to having a kung-fu fighting Chinese astronaut, or an Italian astronaut who's a member of a mob family.

And in episode 69, Buddy Waters, a black character in the series, is portrayed as a gorilla in an anime within the anime.

Aside from this, it's still a mostly well made show.

But then again, the Titans in Attack on Titan are modeled after white people but somehow that is "okay" in most people's eyes.

Not really. The Titans are just ugly as fuck, lol.

And wtf, is that actually a real, legitimate panel from Terra Formars? Or did someone just photoshop that shit on?

Dimension W has about four supporting black characters so far. I'm on episode 6.
