Who are some of your favorite female writers and mangaka?

If the manga are as good as the anime, I'm definitely a fan of Yuki Urushibara. Mushishi is filled with so much insight and imagination.

I don't know how well known this fact is, but Fullmetal Alchemist, one of the most popular and highest rated anime, was adapted from the work of Hiromu Arakawa.

It's pretty well known ^_^

But you just elected the first mangaka I was going to suggest, I love all of her works. The same for my other favorite, Tamura Yumi, who writes excellent shoujo/josei and extraordinary female characters.

I don't really read much manga so I can't offer more 'authentic' suggestions. But I do want to mention Nahoko Uehashi, author of both Kemono no Souja Erin and Seirei no Moribito - had I been versed in Japanese at all I'd already have read the novels these 2 amazing Anime are adapted from.

And lastly, I only recently came across this mangaka through her (very interesting) short works: Reiko Shimizu. Another shoujo writer who crosses norms through her storytelling style and thematic approach.

I like Ai Yazawa a lot. Even though Nana was as dramatic as a soap opera, it was still realistic with the character development. Paradise Kiss was great too. I wish she had more works published.

I just learned about it myself a few months ago. >_< I'm still relatively new to anime communities.

Same. She's a very talented artist, too. I love her character and clothing designs.

Female Writer - Mari Okada; I like all her anime, especially Hanasaku Iroha, Wandering Son, Aquarion Evol, M3 and the Wixoss series [though Wandering Son is an adaptation]

As for mangaka, CLAMP is the one i have most experience with, though I love their art more than their writing.
