I've met plenty Muslims in my life who viewed Hijab as a symbol of oppression and as their rationale they give, 'it's not like boys are gonna lower their gaze anyway!'. Basically: Straw man. Emphatically: A pathetic attempt at counter-arguing (and that too wrongly) aspects of one's ideology instead of intellectualizing and assimilating the underlying idea. Hijab was never meant to protect you from rape, leering or anything. It's simply a symbol of modesty. When you wear hijab, you're basically just telling other people: 'I am modest. So if you wish to approach me, you better approach me with the right mindset'. All of this reminds me of: 'I fear that day when believers will be ashamed of their righteousness and disbelievers will be proud of their falsehood'. - Umar (R.A) Fun fact: You don't have to be the purest of the Momineen to make a comment on this. Your level of faith is of little relevance. What's relevant is that you even have the aptitude for faith or not. So keep it down with the 'you aint the most pious guy either' crap. |
| Odd, I thought people looked at my country (SA) and see women in abayas and say their forced (Which they are), oppressed ...etc. Never thought the hijab would that controversial. |
