I want tatsuhiko to join Minerva but knowing him he would rather save face with burst. He's been thru so much bull with them idk. He may stay but do something crazy. I want him to thrash seki.
This arc has been so insane I can't take it. I'm so invested in this, the fact that Tatsuhiko was thrown into a damn tornado after such slow and comfy start with so many gears at play makes this so intense. As I feared, "run over Morinaga with my car" Seki is going to be damn scary. I love Seki so much, he may be my favorite character. This isn't the position I wanted him to have a major role in, but I'm still happy with it. Seki is one feral nutcase of a man and him being a major antagonist is so frightening, especially after all he and Tatsuhiko have been through. He has ties with the #1 at Minerva assuming Kitsukawa named him first for that reason, and Momozuka is close enough with him to practically give him the address for free. Being in the position Momozuka is in we know for sure he'll get that and Seki could be there any minute, ready to kill. And I'm sure Seki has killed.. I wasn't expecting Seki to have ties with a top Minerva executive but I suppose it's not that surprising...
However, what isn't known is that it's not Kagesato who's in charge of this, he was simply the one spotted with Tatsuhiko. It's not him, it's the #3 of Minerva who's the one in charge of taking Tatsuhiko in. That whole Kitsukawa sequence showed quite a lot about him too. Momozuka is presumably #1 with Shirokane as the #2 Minerva executive, the boss never shows up. Kitsukawa raised to the ranks with merit not loyalty or length of service which makes his elders which are below him at odds with Kitsukawa. We can see that Minerva is definitely way bigger than Burst with at minimum 9 executives, further their dynamic is far less of a family than Burst. Sure, Burst may have 4 major backstabbers but they at face value pretend to be a family, even Hayama has somewhat made his way into being weirdly comfortable there. Tokimasa and Seki feel like true children of Burst too. Lastly, Kitsukawa has some major ambition, he wants a 'young breeze' to come through the company and perhaps climb the ranks to make the top less full of trash, and that may be a major motivation in asking Tatsuhiko to join.
As for Tatsuhiko, he is going through hell.. I wonder what he's been doing, it's not like he can reach out to anyone in Burst, or catch Mayumi. He has Kitsukawa and maybe Yuka that could do something for him, and Yuka only in small ways. He's going through the hell of worrying about the girl who betrayed him, having all the people he respects think he's a backstabber, and having to deal with the guilt of betraying Mako's own trust. He hasn't shaved in awhile, and while it may make him look like more of a generic thug I like the look.., but it definitely shows he's not caring about his looks right now. And finally, to get Minerva truly on Tatsuhiko's back Kitsukawa asked him to join. So far, Tatsuhiko has only betrayed Burst out of desperation, I assure you that he'd go out of his way to make things right but then the setup happened. He is in a corner, he doesn't have any real out from what I know and this could be a life saver, but it would also entail truly choosing to jump ship to Minerva, it's deepening the betrayal. Something that would totally pain him to do. This isn't an easy scenario.
But what else can he do? He loves Burst even though he went through so much with them, I can't see him actually switching companies, his loyalty is too strong. He got beaten to near death by yakuza refusing to lie and say he came on Burst orders. He feels greaty indebted to Mako. He cried exclaiming "Burst is really the best" at their vacation. He challenged Kitsukawa over Mako. He's gotten quite close with Seki. Burst is in a big way his home, it's all he's known since Mako picked him up. Still, the idea of him changing companies is intriguing. I do hope that if Tatsuhiko and Seki meet and clash that Tatsuhiko could earn Seki's trust back again somehow.
I noticed while reading a second time how Tatsuhiko is really thrown in a trial of faith. In fact, the same ones that Ide and Mayumi were placed into. Ide was faced with a hard job and no money, Tatsuhiko could relate to his struggle but he refused to follow his path. Now he is very much in the same situation as Mayumi was at the start of the arc. Tricked and blackmailed, pushed into a corner which could lead to his death, and feeling like a burden to everyone. Hell, he's even ignoring his cellphone like Mayumi did reasoning that it would only be yelling.
Tatsuhiko may have been able to find the strength to stay loyal to Burst and was rewarded with his meeting with Mayumi, a crossroads where he would either help her or push others into her despair. However, now faced with the second test of belief that things can turn out well, Tatsuhiko is given another dilemma, can he find the strength to hang on? It gives more weight to the reading that when he told Mayumi 'good things would be in store if she believed and worked hard' that it was what he needed to hear as well. It also makes me think of when he asked Mako, after Hideyoshi's death, "Do things not work out for the better?"
Edit: I accidentally deleted my first message but thank gosh I had it copied.
