So most times I do the 3 episode rule to decide if I'll buy an anime or not bother with the series

(I sometimes break this and do 6 episodes max but I like to still buy the products I like to support the anime industry)

anyways I found Golden Boy on youtube and am debating if I should buy it or not I know what I said above and I always stay true to it but with Golden Boy it's a hard choice.

On DVD it is $60.00 before tax so I guess it's about $10 per episode but I want your guys opinions too if possible

and thanks :)

All the Anime's on my list are all one's I own Personal physical copies of, or have seen in theaters that I plan on buying, series that I've watched on FUNimation or HIDIVE will not be on here unless/until I have already bought it.

Depends on your buying philosophy obv. Why not watch the whole thing first before deciding?

$60? Are you sure? Unless I'm having a brain fart & looking at the wrong set, you can get it new off of eBay for less than $20:

Ummmm, yeah not for fucking $60 mate, that's ridiculous. I'd definitely get it for $20 like the guy above stated though.

It's an OAV series. Watching it should be cost-inducing. I would be happy to go back in time and purchase all those out-of-print OAVs I like (and to get DVDs releases of never released ones)

But 60 are far too much: they were not made one-two years ago.

Nah, it's not even that enjoyable imo.
Also rather buy something that has a chance of a second season.

hopefully I can maybe find it at Hockshop or somewhere like that so I can find it for that price I was lucky enough to get FLCL for $15 at the one near me.

good point tbh I usually spend about that much (or a bit more) on ones that come out the month it's released.

true, it seems pretty good but not worth the price for the episodes (imo) and yet I always spend that much or more for 12 episode anime's

(then again I always rewatch them and have a good time watching them but with Golden Boy not 100% sure)

It's one of the few ecchi shows I've managed to enjoy. It's a really fun ride.

But $60? Hell no.
I'd pay that for Evangelion, because I've been chasing it for years. But not for freaking Golden Boy...

why can't you buy online? Seems weird to me. You have internet, don't you?
Amazon has it for 17$
https://www.amazon.com/Golden-Boy-Collection-Mitsuo-Iwata/dp/B008XJM8TG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475256856&sr=8-1

I wouldn't pay 3-4 times the retail price just because it's a local shop. I expect shops to be a bit more expensive, maybe 20-25% but 300% or more? Heck no. Tell that shop owner to go fuck himself.

I'd pay 60 bucks for the Golden Boy Manga (10 volumes) but not for the DVDs if they are available so much cheaper.
I probably regret this post by now.

But Bronze is Yaoi, I don't think it's a good substitute for an ecchi series like Golden Boy.

It's not really that it's that I don't have a credit card I can buy things in store since I have debit but online stuff sadly no.

and it's the companies price not the stores plus also I'm not 100% sure but animes might be a bit more here not 100% sure though (Canada)

@animefan0071 Seeing that you actually pay over 50€ for half a recent series, sorry about my answer. I was taking my country into account. ^^" (except for a few cases like your example, it is usually around 40€ the series, maybe half-series if I consider some rather pricy young publisher)

What?! Seriously? DVD boxes of end80s to early 2000 shows cost between 9 and 12€ here o_o (up to 25). I recently rebought the Renewal of Eva series for 12€ (shipping fees included).

I read somewhere that the USA became the second market for japanese animation a few years ago, I wonder why with such prices. XD

Just watch the OVA, as I remember it is only composs of 3EP... Will probably save you $$$... Though its your money so, if you find the OVA great... Buy it.

I don't about the Golden Boy manga...

But I always buy on amazon (europe) with regular online banking, you don't need a credit card here. Even paypal works. Is it really credit card only where you live?
Or asking someone you know (friends, parents, etc..) with a credit card to order it for you if credit card really is the only option. That's what I did when I was younger. All these options seem better than paying an additional 43$ to me. But I guess it's up to you.

Your local shop is shitty if it's charging $60 for a DVD that's $20-$25 retail (depending on if it's the 2007 or 2012 release, both are cheap though).

Huh, shop around. Do you even google? Golden Boy is $18.71

http://www.rightstufanime.com/Golden-Boy-DVD-Complete-Collection-Hyb

Though I personally don't know why you'd want it, I wouldn't buy it. Are you confusing it with Golden TIME or something? The two collections of that are around $60, both of them together.

Okay ouch, that sucks. Just in case this is the Canadian Shipping policy for that site I posted, if it helps.

Canadian Customers

Orders shipping to Canada will be shipped by Federal Express (FedEx). Note a surcharge will appear on all Canadian orders. This surcharge covers all taxes, duties, customs and processing fees. Previously these fees were collected by Canada Post and were accompanied by a COD charge to collect them. By moving to pre-collection, the fees will be the same but this collection charge is no longer necessary - so you save on every order with us! Delivery time to Canada after your order completes should be 5-7 days.

Canada orders are generally held until all items in the order are in-stock in our warehouse. However, should your order be held up by one or two items for an extended period, we will, at our option and at no additional expense to you, ship all items that are currently available on that order and any other current order to minimize your wait for the products.

Please note that FedEx shipping requires a valid physical shipping address. We can not ship FedEx to PO Boxes. Please visit https://www.fedex.com/ca_english/signaturerelease/ to fill out delivery instructions in case you are unavailable to sign for the package.

Also last I read Rightstuf offers free shipping to Canada if you spend enough ($250 I think) but I haven't been able to find anything about that.

Did the OP end up buying it?

BITD, I had to sneak into the "Adult" section at the local block buster to rent it lol...When the reality is that it's pretty tame compared today's standards.

It's one of the last hand drawn masterpieces to come from Japan, and it has a quirky sense of humor that many anime's have since copied. So to me IMHO it's worth collecting or at least to watch.

The only downer is it's only 6 episodes and leaves you wanting more. Heck I've been wanting more ever since I seen it 20 years ago.

Good point I know they have all 6 episodes together on yt so I might take another look at it and maybe try buying it on amazon (if my cousin can lend me his card to use)
