| Unfortunately The Crossroads Pretty Boy cut some content to the full insight, inner dialogue and buildup of the story to some concepts, but regardless of being slightly rushed, it's a very good adaptation for producing everything well with the main plots. The fact that Ryuusuke was in a bad mood against his parents as a child when dismissing the woman's hope, Suzue formerly being one of the top prettiest in school slowly turning unhealthy and the many victims who become haunting ghosts after committing suicide is lost, but the story remains good with good performances from the cast as well. The Crossroad Pretty Boy is one of my top favorite series from Junji Itou, even if the full story is left inconclusive like most of his stories. The anime only adapts the first chapter out of five, including an epilogue, so the anime doesn't reveal the later answers to the unknown of who the crossroads pretty boy is, what happens to Midori or Ryuusuke afterwards, let alone the many haunting deceased victims... but what I loved about this series before the somewhat disappointing reveal of who the pretty boy is, the ending itself simply for being inconclusive, is how mysterious the mist and the pretty boy's power to "possess: victims to abide to his commands, along with the contrast of Ryuusuke's haunting past and attempt to redeem himself by helping others instead with hope over despair or anything that will lead to negativity and suicide. 7/10. As for Slug Girl, as memorable as it was, in manga, it's not exactly a top favorite even if it was captivating, but seeing it come to life in animation was glorious in experiencing it, seeing and hearing the actress' interpretation of speaking with a growing slug as a tongue, to the horror of her parents removing her from the salted bath with only her head, turning into a slug girl. Awesome horror. 8/10. |
