| Anime, More then Just... Today we want to touch on some of the reasons why anime touches the heart and minds of the anime community. Someone may say, it is only a cartoon, a set pictures or some other remark that may cause us to rebuttal. But to the anime community it is much more then that. We may get immersed into the story as any other story real or fictional. Anime sometimes can become more real then biography or story from people we know or heard. | Anime, More then Just... Part 2 Let us go back some thousands of years. When the written language was in its infantry. People would tell stories verbally to each other. Imagine that you are in ancient Greece, there is a circle of people surrounding a large fire. At the center of the crowd is the story teller, he tells the story of Hercules slaying the nine headed Hydra. People are listening with intent. They are what story tellers call, "Seeing with their ears". Being engulfed in a story by someone telling it is not uncommon. In the 1930's we had radio and if you ever got to listen to radio program from that time your could imagine that you are the one in the story. You are the one slaying the nine headed Hydra. See my point, anime is much like this. I will continue later... |

| Anime, More then Just... Part 3 So, we learned that anime can captivate our imaginations by the same reasons as when the story tellers would tell stories. How is it possible that anime can do this? How is it possible that anime can touch our hearts and minds? As we begin our journey through what our imaginations will take us to endless possibilities. I will continue later... |

| Anime, More then Just... Part 4 As we have learned, anime can bring people of different nationalities, countries, religions and ethnic groups together. Anime can bring the world together in a matter of speaking. The possibilities are endless. Let us reach into the inner depths of our imaginations and take a journey into the limitless depths of our minds and hearts. It is a journey that will lead us all to one place. As we enter into that place where we can go on the adventure of our lives, we can connect with the characters and stories in a way that only ourselves can understand. Let us go there together and connect with the characters and or the anime. We can relate and that is what we have been talking about all along. Does not the writer writes in such a way to get us involved and actually get us to be the person we connected with. If so, then the writer has done his/her job superbly. He/She has accomplished what they have dreamed about when they decided to write. To be able to get their audience involved in their story is the greatest accomplishment. I will continue later... |

| Anime, More then Just... Part 5 As we have seen that the writer's greatest accomplishment is to be able to get his/her audience involved in the story. For those of us who love anime this is also accomplished. Are we not there when our main protagonist cries, laughs, suffers and possibly dies? Were we not there when Pain was fighting Naruto and was killing Hinata? Did we not feel the loss when L died in Death Note or maybe the excitement that Light Yagami has finally won? Anime can take us on a journey through our imaginations and that my friend is why we watch anime. I will continue later... |

| Anime, More then Just... Part 6 We have seen that anime can take us on a journey through our imaginations. That our hearts and minds gets engaged as we live through the lives of the characters. Every once and a while we come across issues of morality (right and wrong). I was watching episode 8 of Saga of Tanya the Evil "Trial by Fire". In the episode the soldiers from the empire was ordered to fire upon and kill civilians. This brought up the issue of right and wrong and morality in warefare. Tanya's troops were ordered to kill the civilians that stayed behind in the city. However Tanya first anounced that anyone staying in the city would be considered enemy soldiers of the empire. I am reminded of a true story of Seargant Alvin York. He was drafted into the army during WWI. Also he was a conscientious objector becuase of his religion. He did not want to kill. In October 1918, as a newly-promoted corporal, York was one of a group of seventeen soldiers assigned to infiltrate German lines and silence a machine gun position. After the American patrol had captured a large group of enemy soldiers, German small arms fire killed six Americans and wounded three. York was the highest ranking of those still able to fight, so he took charge. While his men guarded the prisoners, York attacked the machine gun position, killing several German soldiers with his rifle before running out of ammunition. Six German soldiers charged him with bayonets, and York drew his pistol and killed all of them. The German officer responsible for the machine gun position had emptied his pistol while firing at York but failed to hit him. This officer then offered to surrender and York accepted. York and his men marched back to their unit's command post with more than 130 prisoners. York was immediately promoted to sergeant and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross; an investigation resulted in the upgrading of the award to the Medal of Honor. York's feat made him a national hero and international celebrity among allied nations. When asked why he killed, his response was, " I killed to save lives. I will continue later... |

| Anime or animation in general is one of if not the best mediums for storytelling. It allows the viewers to experience something that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to express in other mediums. I can't imagine trying to portray the atmosphere and world of Psycho-Pass or Youjo Senki in another medium. |

My thoughts exactly, in fact i was talking to someone a couple of weeks ago about the same thing and i mentioned Psyco-Pass as well. |
