THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.

We finally arrived at the last chapter...and damn, it sucks that he still gets to leave the prison even though he killed almost all of the school.

Also, I wonder where is Keisuke though....

If memory serves me, Keiuke was stuffed in a small stony space underground with a stone lid. It was in front of the school in the courtyard I ~believe~.

As morbid as it is, I'm pretty satisfied that Hasumi found a way out of the max penalty, dude worked so hard and was ridiculously clever. As for the last bit in the Ch however, I think that girl imagined him across the street as she's pretty traumatized. Dude won't get out of prison until he's around 60 years old, and neither of them look as if they aged 25 years yet. A solid read, will have to get around to watching the movie now!

Ehhhh.....I guess it was fine.
The first half of the manga was very good and intriguing, but it definitely lost that in the secon half. The whole massacre was a little over the top in my opinion.

Also in this chapter I don't buy the verdict at all. I'm no expert in japanese law, but I do know that japan has an extremely high percentage of guilty verdicts and that they are often biased toward the prosecution. That means, that often just going to trial means gulit for the defendant. Now I can believe that Hasumi escaped the death penalty for beeing found insane, but in no way would he only get 25 years and worse even, go free after that. He would probably spent the rest of his life in an asylum.

Him beeing out is just for the final image of him looking at the girl and I think that's cheap.

Mentally ill or not, having that high of a kill count should've at least landed him a life sentence without parole in addition to every other crime he had already confessed to. To think that the lives of everyone who was killed by Hasumin is merely worth 25 years of jail time in a comfy medical institution is really heinous and with his incomparable charm, he might've even talked his way into getting released early thanks to "Good Behavior".

Miya not saying a word about the incident and Hayami's body being stuck out in the mountains didn't help at all in the end and that's a real shame. I enjoyed the manga though~

wtf this was the least satisfying ending ever. Why did have to get out D:

Was this story made just to criticize the Japanese justice system or something?

I was so sad when he hit Miya and dropped her from the roof. Also I was so confused when they said 3 survived, I thought they meant Hasumi as the third, but it's really nice to see that Miya survived

crazy that they left it open ended like that though

It looks like her as an adult, around aged 30. So he might have served 15 or so years and got out for good behaviour, which he can easily do as duped so many in his past.

I was very excited when I saw that this had been written by Yusuke Ichi of Shinsekai Yori and Crimson Labyrinth fame I was very excited since I love his stories. And for the first half of the story I was loving it, Hasumi was very intriguing as the murderous yet what seemed morally ambiguous ubermensch. But the whole school massacre thing I didn't like. Too much and too over the top. A guy as clever as him would have fled and made a life somewhere else.
At least we didn't get a patronizing "plucky teenagers make a stand and take out the murderer" ending. That would have been shit.

Tadenuma did show and Hasumin shot him anyways after all his bravado. Those kids didn't stand a chance

I thought the beginning was a bit questionable with its weird view on homosexuality, but I was still okay with it because it wasn’t anything bad though the story wasn’t interesting yet to me.

Then it got to the part where one of the students was killed when him and his two friends were researching about the teacher. I thought this part was the peak of the series, when it focused on these two kids trying to find their “missing” best friend. Slowly uncovering the hidden past the beloved teacher has, and realizing that they’re falling to the same traps his old victims died to. The tense dynamic between the two students and the teacher had me unable to put the manga down. Wondering when the teacher was going to realize these two kids could foil his whole image, and how the kids would try and fight against this dude.

Till the part where Miya found out about the phone, and Hasumi planned to fake her suicide it was going so well and I loved the story a lot. Then he pulls out a gun out of nowhere and kills 40 students? Dissapointed in how the story went, making the teacher reckless, because it had a very good thing going for it. The part where he got arrested was also anticlimactic? It’s like “oh of course these two students conveniently lived and was able to tell the tale”.

Well, the ending wasn’t the worst so I would still recommend it given the middle part was very well executed imo

I was let down with how the last part of this manga was handled, it definitely had me in the first 18 chapters but somehow lost that spark that had me intrigued.

Felt like Miya shouldn't have been taken out like that and became a thing that he can love but I do respect the authors cutthroat manner.

Also wished the old man played more of a part as it could have been fun seeing Keisuke and his friends contemplate between the two monsters.

Overall it wasn't anything memorable but it was a good way to pass the time.

Hasumin, hopefully you meet a painful end one day....

Hasumi originally put Keisuke's body, zipped up in a sleeping bag, into a place designated for a time-capsule that was kept closed with only a hinged steel-flap and nothing else, lol.

However after Hasumi confronted the science teacher (aka bone collector) who was nearby the capsule, collecting carrion beetles, Hasumi pulled Keisuke out of the time-capsule and.... then I don't recall what, if anything, was mentioned about his body.

I do remember that Hasumi placed the dog he killed with onions (Momo, RIP) around the time-capsule to explain why there was the existence of carrion beetles in the first place.  Cause the bone collector was super-boner over being given his corpse.

I want to know what became of the nurse Hasumi was sporadically fornicating with.  She was just forgotten about.

And, hurray for small favors, Jasmine (the cat) was safe and sound and hopefully adopted by Miya.

I struggled to read the first part dunno why but it certainly was the peak of the series. Midway it fell apart and turned to shit actually. Only thing I take from it is that perfect crime doesn't exist.

It was fine until he decided to shoot up the entire school. After that the violence was way over the top and felt cheap.

Also it's really hard reading something like this that happens a lot in the country I live tbh.

The whole manga was nice and unique before the massacre, then it became boring to follow the students just protecting themselves during the massacre because the main fun was following the serial killer and his thoughts, scheming and killing (sure, it was nice to see then nonchalantly getting brutally murdered but eventually felt too dragging). It just became extended sections of that same killing again and again, after the teacher suddenly decided to do the massacre after murdering the student he was hooking up with because he was almost caught. Ending felt empty, the teacher got pushed aside and lacking. Downhill.
