| Well that was a bit surprising, as Nobunaga-sensei manages to show more nipple in this episode than the heavily and unnecessarily censored Nande Koko Sensei has in its entire run. As is usually the case, this has prompted some people to make statements indicating that they don't understand the differences between hentai (which neither of these shows are) and ecchi (which is their proper classification). In ecchi, the sexy shenanigans are usually used for comic effect, or if shown in a more serious vein usually indicate a deepening romantic relationship between the participants. Nobunaga-sensei and Ao-chan Can't Study are good examples of the former use, Nande Koko Sensei uses ecchi situations for both purposes, and (from previous seasons) Shinmai no Testament and High School DxD are focused more on relationship development while the shenanigans serve as power-ups as well. Of course, the addition of scantily clad attractive female characters in compromising positions is considered to be a plus for a show, simply on its own merits. In hentai, the whole point of the exercise is usually to arouse the viewer, so it's basically animated porn. We actually have an example this season in Araiya-san!: Ore to Aitsu ga Onnayu de!?. Watch three or four uncensored episodes of that, and you'll have a good idea of what a hentai is all about. Hentai generally has minimal plot and lower-quality animation as well. So no, Nobunaga-sensei is not hentai. The underlying comic premise of this episode is that Nobunaga (and the viewer) get somewhat excited thinking that blonde-sensei wants to have sex, but no--all she wants is to nurse him... |
