Great episode! Ezekiel/Amer's song was fire. I've had "Lonestar Jazz" on repeat since Friday. Can't wait until it's added to Spotify. I'm so glad the didn't go with the trend and got a horrible mumble raper for the raps.

I like Carole and Tuesday's newest song. I'm waiting for another song to love as much as "Loneliest Girl" maybe it will be the new track with Crystal. "Unbreakable" is my third favorite song from C & T Vol 1.

Poor Angela. I knew Dahlia wasn't her biological mother, but I'm surprise Angela didn't know that. It was obvious from the picture of young Angela and Dahlia hadn't transition into a female physically. Angela's really going through it. She should've apologized and hired Katy back after the Cybelle drama at least Katy would've been there with her. I do hope Tao comes to help her.

Also Roddy is the man.

Their last song of the album is nice. Tobe toned it down a lot this episode which in return made him a lot more bearable. Still don't like him but okay.
And thought so but good to have Krsytal as their collab partner.
I wonder why the show has been pushing straight pairings for our leads though. At the beginning, I thought they were going to be romantic together but I guess they are just platonic soulmates which makes sense given how they have interacted together so far.

Amer's prison song was fucking SICK. I'm not huge into the overall narrative here but I love the way the show is using music to develop the characters and peer into their headspace and emotions. This is underrated character writing and doing it better than any musical I've seen. I feel like Amer is a nuanced, believable character based on two songs and surely not more than 20 minutes of screentime.

The contrast between C&T's upward momentum and Angela's downward spiral is also great direction. This show has genuinely picked up the last half dozen episodes.

I'm concerned about the ability to speed along into a believable conclusion, but we'll see.

I feel bad for Angela, though I have to say that they did her breakdown well. I hope she gets better soon, Tao might be able to help her.

Ezekiel hitting us with another sick song. Had a pretty Samurai Champloo vibe that I really liked!

A while ago, this show got sort of all over the place and I find myself not excited to watch it each week, but just watching to see where it goes. If more episodes had the character development that this one did, I think I'd still be as excited as I was before. At least they're picking some things up before the ending.

I was sure Dahlia was an androgynous person like Desmond, but in retrospect, I don't think it was ever confirmed, and it's possible that some people are right, that this was Angela's adopted father originally, who was abusive, and who took on the new identity of "mama" to try to erase that past and pretend to be someone else. I have no clue now, but it seems pretty suggested that Angela is an adopted immigrant from Earth, at the very least.

At this point I only care strongly for Angela as a character, and maybe Tao. Their storyline has been more interesting than Carole & Tuesday's, who basically get everything they want, whenever they want it, in terms of their career (though not so much in terms of their relationships). Their only really difficult career hurdle was when they got booed at Cydonia the first year, and even then Crystal appeared to give them a pep talk and pull them out of it. I hope Angela recovers and I hope she collabs with Carole & Tuesday in the end. That's still my wish for the ending. This is rough seeing what Angela is going through. It's hard to feel anything warm for Carole & Tuesday knowing their lives are relatively cushy right now while Angela is suffering, and all C&T are thinking about is beating her in the Grammy awards. Their overestimating her seems like they view her as just a competitor and not as a real person with problems and vulnerability. They saw through the media what she's going through and still said "nah she'll be fine". It's not endearing.

The prison music video was an unrealistic and ridiculous scenario. They should have had him steal or find a phone to do that and it would've made sense. Pretty sure guards in a prison would not be authorized to film inside it, and especially not to let a detainee broadcast a message to the world. It's a shame this show has such ridiculous scenarios because the song was good. I wish that entertainment media with a political message would not ignore realistic courses of events in getting their message across. So many things in this show would/could never happen in real life, which makes it harder to apply the political messaging to real life. There's a lot of emotional manipulation but not much logical exploration of the events unfolding. We still don't even know anything about what is going on on Earth. I guess it's just supposed to be a vague allegory for a country/place that is worse off, but knowing some circumstances of how and why that happened would at least make more sense of why people on Mars are prone to resist immigration from there. Maybe we'll find out the history in some big "reveal" near the end.

I hate to say this but I think I'm way more invested in Angela's storyline that Carole and Tuesday's. I had hopes that their story would slowly get better but everything happens so fast and we don't even see the process of them making songs. It's just like "hey Tuesday lets make a song" "okay, Carole, we did it!". Even Tuesday's crush on the journalist was "resolved" so fast, they could have dragged it a bit more. I barely had time to feel sorry for her. It could have been really interesting to have it go on.
While it is true that Angela's singing career also goes extremely smoothly her storyline is actually not about her singing in contrast to Carole and Tuesday's. Her storyline is more about her personal struggles and we see that from the beginning.

I have also seen some people commenting on how this episode was out of the blue regarding Angela but I agree with you. While I do think that the second part where she starts taking drugs seems kind of rushed I do think there were a lot of hints that something was going wrong. First of all, we were shown that photo of her and that man episodes ago. I went and looked for it and on episode 7 we actually see that Dahlia is dropping Angela to her own place because she doesn't want to go back to her old room since it reminds her of the abuse. Dahlia mentions she "won't let that happen again and it was only because she was taking that medication", maybe the androgynous medication, I think the singer that died mentioned there being a sort of medication. On thing is true, episode 7 was a while ago and they should have dropped more hints but well. I do not remember Angela taking any sort of drugs, though I highly doubt this is an addiction, I just think she's having a sort of panic attack and overdosing as someone already mentioned. Though they could have toned down the number of pills because that does seem like it could send her to the hospital. Also since she has so many pills at home she must have had panic attacks before but I don't remember being shown that. Btw, I'm not entirely sure if by saying Dahlia is not her "real mamma" Angela means that Dahlia is not her mother or that she is not related to her biologically. In other words, I thoughts Dahlia was originally Angela's "father" but transitioned into a woman and became her "mother" but I didn't think she was adopted. I am not sure if Angela doesn't know that Dahlia was not originally female because otherwise why would she have that photo? Unless she really does think that person in the photo was someone else... I guess we will find out soon.

Leaving that aside, while I do like Angela's story there is a clear problem with the whole series by introducing this storyline. In general, the story is really fast paced and problems are resolved way too quickly which makes me think that this is aimed at younger audiences. Not that it couldn't be more developed and still be for younger audiences but it certainly is way too simplistic to be more mature. Introduce Angela's storyline and this whole mood is destroyed. Drugs are kind of pushing the boundaries of pg13, not that they are illegal drugs but she's clearly taking way too many at the end which kind of makes this show seem to not know what it is. Also the hunted creepy rabbit doesn't help. It just seems a bit weird to have this simplistic storyline and Angela's more dark one... It also makes Carole and Tuesday seem too simple compared which isn't good at all considering they are the main characters... Tuesday was pretty interesting at first, with her mother's storyline but they didn't develop that so much or her crush on the journalist which could have helped her realize certain things. We still don't know anything about her father either. That being said I do appreciate Angela's storyline as it is the only thing that keeps me hooked on the series, not that the rest is necessarily bad but I am kind of disappointed to be honest.

Also, I do think it's possible to have a second season since there seem to be way too many loose ends still. But since this series is so fast paced maybe everything will surface in the last episodes... To be honest, I was expecting something a bit like Nana and it really was not like that at all XD lol

Shame Ezekiel's been deported - he seemed like quite a cool character

Well i thought she was transgender and biologically Angela's father, but now i'm just rly confused what is going on with "Mama's" character.

She is a hermaphrodite... Tao mentioned this earlier when she tried to confront him about his secrets.
From what we understand from Desmond, who is also a hermaphrodite.,. and based on her previous appearance. She was born a man, and then developed female reproductive organs due to being on Mars. It seems to be something quite rare.

I've lost genuine interest in the series a while ago and am now mainly watching out of habit. There was and probably still is a lot of potential but I feel it's constantly being wasted and that's really frustrating to watch.

I wasn't too thrilled by Angela this episode, even though her storyline is generally the more interesting to me. It just happened all a little too fast for my taste and I wish her development of this episode had been spread out to at least two. Have her searching for her origins a little longer and don't just show one non-existing birth certificate and that's it. And maybe don't escalate her drug problem within only two scenes.

I still enjoy Tao's story. No idea what he's up to, but his times on screen are by far my favorite parts.

And this! It is my biggest petpeeve when it comes to this series. There are just so. many. ridiculous scenarios and plotpoints. This is only one example and not even the only one this episode (that recording session in the church for example. You can't just ... put up one camera with an integrated microfone to record a voice, a guitar, an e-piano and a fricking organ in a CHURCH, this won't work!). Sorry, lost track right there, back to Amer. I was so baffled the guards filmed his video. Not only because that would probably be illegal, but didn't he say just like five minutes earlier that he was assaulted by the guards in said prison? So on one hand they want to tell me, that this prison is a horrible place with racist, abusive guards but next you're showing three of those guards just casually filming an illegal music video with the prisoner? What?

I'm just frustrated with how convenient the plot gets to deliver a political message while ignoring logic and the more complicated aspects of the exact politics they're trying to talk about.

What Camera? That's a microphone.

He's talking about the officers from the previous episode who raided his room and decked him with the back end of an assault rifle.

They're probably big fans of his. And as long as they don't get caught I don't see a problem. Maybe a reach but that's how I rationalized it.

Oh, I must admit, I only saw that mic from a different perspective and because it was so small, I couldn't identify it clearly, I somehow just assumed, it was a camera. Though that doesn't really change my problem. Yes, it is a better microphone (but where is the recording device, btw?). But acustics in churches are shit for recording and especially for an ensemble like this you absolutely need multiple micophones or this will just sound terrible (and definitely not like they're sounding in the episode).
I know this stuff is irrelevant for most people but C&T does so much like this. Stuff that just ... won't work or at least won't work well (most of the time recording with one mic for everything, no cables, recording in rooms full of reverb, ...). Like I said, this is probably irrelevant for most viewers. But I notice it and I am bothered by it. It's a pet peeve.

I get it. Even though for me the stretch was a little too big, when it works for other people to rationalize that way, that's fine.

What botheres me with this, is that it seems so inconsistent with the message they're trying to get across. They make a point of telling us, amer was assaulted (even if it wasn't the guards from this episode, it was governmental authority and since it wasn't important, who specifically assaulted him but just their position, I assume that's what this is about). But at the same time, the rebellious illegal prison-video is filmed by prison guards. Without any explanation. I just feel that doesn't add up with what they're trying to say, at least without explicitly going down the route of "even in corrupt authority you can find good people". The song itself is more of personal story for amer, so maybe they thought it's not a problem within that context? Idk, maybe I'm just misunderstanding what they're trying to say.

Le sigh. Look, I like Ezekiel's songs, but gosh darn it these pairings can take a hike. Gonna bust this crap out with so little time left? It doesn't feel satisfying to me at all. I actually feel pretty let down.

Carole and Tursday's album ending-song was nice though! We'll see how the collab goes! I wonder what Ertegun will do with the information he's received.

Also, I'm not gonna lie... a girl (my brother's friend) just overdosed in my house and died, so watching Angela down own these pills is really just hard for me to watch. It's been shaking me up for a week now. I really hope she can get help before it's too late...

Dahlia got a heart attack (or sickness) causing Angela an identity crisis. Gus went to visit his friend Höfner to get an artist to collaborate with Carole & Tuesday. Carole went to visit her friend Amer. Spencer returned to Valerie’s side, just to investigate Jerry and work along with Kyle. Ertegun revealed Roddy that he’ll participate in the grammys. Ezequiel recorded a song in prison, the video got viral (Carole). Carole and Tuesday got inspired and decided to record their last song (album) in a church, Tobe decided to accompany them with the organ, they finished, and Gus presented them the celebrity, Crystal, the collaboration. Angela is going through a hard time, in her despair she sent Tao a message, he’s busy.

Really interesting, watching Angela going through that facet, she got really affected by discovering the truth about her family. This was the first song from Carole & Tuesday that I really think is good, damn great song, they could win that grammy.

What kind of guards would record, upload and add music to the video of a recluse?

"Lay it All on Me" is probably my favorite song of the series now. I think it'll be hard to top it. It's so incredible.
It'll be interesting to see them have a duet with Crystal, though.

Sad to see Angela going through a downward spiral and turning with drugs. Even though I wanted her to lose the Grammys, this is too much...
