| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- And so, I am caught up to a series that I love and one that appears to have not been translated for more than a year. On this chapter with one of the most tense conversations we’ve seen and a direct question that could change everything being asked to the one person who can answer it. I hope Delinquent Scans comes back. This story has some amazing characters and some of my favorite art ever, and it hits all my narrative biases even if I personally felt a bit of a drop in quality after Shibuya. When they were driving to Yousuke and what came prior are notable. Firstly, not so notable is the Christmas and New Years atmosphere which I love. But more importantly, Hayama has come along and Alice was shown to really observe him. Perhaps she knows something? She saw something in him for certain. Then in the car we finally heard Alice’s reasoning for what she’s doing. She is not helping Tatsuhiko and Hayama, she is saving Yousuke and they are helping her. Her reason? For love. That would make total sense, I was wondering why she cared about him so much. She knew him, she met him, she claims she fell in love with him. She could tell something was wrong and maybe she somehow got the idea of Hayama’s role in all of this through him. I’m not so sure. Either way, I loved Hayama’s response to her, “emotions.. Well… she is a woman”. Everyone runs off emotions dude! Tatsuhiko nearly killed himself to save Inukai and Aoi, “that’s what a friend does”. Is love not similar to selfless loyalty? But I guess he has none of that either, so maybe that shows something more about him than it says something about Alice. I also loved how he was looking at Tatsuhiko super nervously in the car, he’s such a likable little rat. As for the Tatsuhiko and Yousuke meeting here, it was pretty freaking sad. As soon as Tatsuhiko started to yell and chisel down at Yousuke’s facade with his fists similar to how he opened Hideyoshi up on the rooftop, I was waiting for him to break down. And it definitely came. “Why did you kill Hideyoshi”? I must appreciate how death is treated here, it’s long lasting and it’s never something you can just forget about as you move on like Tatsuhiko may have initially suggested, he’s haunted by all this. As for Yousuke, his glazed eyes were not broken by anything until Hayama came out. That may have briefly awakened the Yousuke in him. Hayama’s play here is interesting, he doesn’t want to make his role in this obvious but if Yousuke starts opening his mouth, what will he do? I was actually concerned that this was a set up, “this information is spot on” Alice said. But, Taki metaphorically and literally is taking Wizard’s fate into his own hands by getting the gun. This could be a move of his, I had thought. It seems genuine since Yousuke thought they were here for the deal but now there’s still the other party that could show up any moment and that could get bad. This is overall a tense situation due to Yousuke’s link to everything and in the possible people that could show up and make this worse. I was actually wondering if they were going to simply knock Yousuke out and take him with them. |
