Surprised at the haters. I see pretentious stuff get fawned over (NGE) but this was just short of a masterpiece and is hated by so many. Anyways, from the story to the art to the characters to the animation to the music, it was all amazing. The best shows are only one or two cour i swear. My only criticisms are that some things were way too easy to predict and that Kiki's issue isn't resolved. Would love to see a movie wrapping that up.

This anime was fairly enjoyable as a soft sci-fi or science fantasy work. The id wells in particular were particularly interesting; it was a realm that acted as a visual representation of a killer's subconscious, and their unique environments and dire gimmicks were something to look forward to when new killers cropped up. The last few episodes were a tad too esoteric though, and I didn't fully grasp what the chief's end goal actually was.

Loved the idea and concepts, but I felt like the execution fell a bit flat. The ending wasn't as satisfying as I hoped. Makes me want to rewatch Inception tbh.

That was a creepy baby. Also yea wtf was the point of this old guys plan? I didn't see anything explained and all I heard was he liked the number 7 and had some god complex but still doesn't explain his plan or how he was creating serial killers. Kiki was the only thing to make sense and boy what a tragic character. Having to ether die or be stuck in there. I will say this was a mix bag of a show since I liked the concept of diving in to find killers and find out more about them and not all the characters are bad. Its just in the end nothing was explained really about the big villain so all that build up of john walker for nothing.

I had to rewatched this in dub, and it's so tearjerking.

AND YET

THERE HAS YET TO BE A SEQUEL.

FOR THIS GREAT SERIES.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Fukuda was a killer yet ended up as my second favorite character. For whatever reason, him and Sakaido struck me as "the great duo that never was." I believe in another life they'd be a great detective duo.

For the finale, that final 4 episode stretch was pretty good. Kaeru didn't exactly receive a happy ending, but I don't think stories always need them. The story as a whole was anything insane, and John Walker felt under-average to me. That twist when it was revealed who he was on the phone call had me on the edge of my seat, but everything after (with him) felt lackluster. The ending speech sequence with Narihisago closed out the series in a way that I appreciate, given he was my favorite character.

I was kind of hoping Narihisago would get something out of this, like maybe a little more freedom if not a full pardon, but I guess it was wishful thinking. He's definitely still haunted by what happened to his family, that stuff doesn't just go away, and by the things he remembers form the wells. However, I think he's made some peace with what happened, and that allows him to live a little more in his own reality.
