----------------------------------------
“He was killed… for such a trivial reason?” Poor Tatsuhiko, having it all laid out. How will Hayama squirm out of this one?! He’s definitely opportunistic but I never pegged him as great under pressure. In fact, I love that Taki described him as a gutless bastard because that’s an excellent descriptor of our best boy. Taki put it explicitly, at least his side of things. Hayama, afraid of being caught for pushing drugs, got Yousuke, who stated Hayama was the man who he respected most, to kill his friend, what we know also harmed Burst's relationship with Monmai. In fact, there may still be some loyalty towards Hayama after all the suffering, by being there it was an attempt to remind Yousuke to keep covering Hayama’s involvement.

The line about how Hayama doesn’t feel the impact of his crimes because he gets other people to commit them, this also seen with the stabbing of Tsuchiya, immediately reminded me of one of my favorite conversations in the manga, one with Haraki. He stated that despite bringing people to an early death, since he doesn’t see their faces he forgets about them in a few days. ‘While committing crimes like they’re in another city, they become unable to differentiate good and bad’.

But that’s not all. Yousuke was "freed" from his suffering. The Taki-described empty doll was shot, the inverse of Hayama’s ‘gutless’ deeds as Taki did it himself. The relationship between Taki who apparently stopped Yousuke’s numerous attempts at suicide, Yousuke, and Hayama is still intriguing, there is still much to understand. It’s not easy for me to parse but what is easy to grasp is how sad that shooting is in the broad scheme of things. If Yousuke dies, then both of Tatsuhiko’s first friends in Burst die. And Tatsuhiko may feel some casual blame for this, by letting Hideyoshi escape he was not handed over to the yakuza, instead he got pushed in front of a train by Yousuke. The rippling effect of Tatsuhiko’s futile salvation can be felt.
