Was there two female leads in the prequel? As far as I remember, there was always only one main character in this story, and even in the sequel, Nozomi eventually took the main focus.

Echizen is just the only other girl in the prequel so that's why she's shown the spotlight. She's a important side character though.

Because it's MAL, not as if they actually read the manga when they announced this. I wouldn't consider her a main character but she's pretty much involved in the prequel at least. But no, not a lead.

Nozimi is the protagonist in both the prequel and sequel. The sequel also have Midori and Suo as main, but Nozomi is lead.
