I sometimes find myself wondering,"Most studios that were founded as early as 1975 or even later can deliver beautiful sakuga animation, then why not Deen?" Of course, it could simply be lack of information on my part, but most early studios, or even a lot of newer ones absolutely nail fighting scenes. But as far as I've seen, Studio Deen's animation quality can be called decent (by sakuga standards) at best. Does anyone have some info on this?

Thanks for the response. But that's what I said, it's "decent at best".

There are some more than decent stuff in there

most of the stuff I've seen from them from that period looked above average, even the tv productions but you are right about modern deen, I don't remember seeing anything impressive from them in the last couple of years.

You're right. Those are some solid cuts, and I'm actually surprised now as to why we aren't getting more of this quality from Studio Deen, especially since animation is digital now.

If you watch Log Horizon for "Sakuga cuts" I think you might've been missing the point all along

I don't. This thread is in Log Horizon's discussion because I hadn't figured out how to create a forum for general anime discussion back then, so this was what I managed to pull off with a few google searches. Now I know how to do that.

Because Deen does drama and SoL, for example this scene is much better than most action sakuga garbage.

@Amoh25
It's late answer, but no, it's not Decent at Best, it's cut from 80/90 and it's really impressive for that time. And your under arrest OAV have some of the more complex animation to do (cars animation). it's among the best animated OVA of its time (with some animator that after that worked in Prod IG or Ufotable as many of the main animators of these 2 studios started by working for studio Deen)

The issue with studio is that they only use freelance animator(so they don't have regular great animator) and their director work like in the 80/90 (most of their director and animation director are old and work like during 80/90). So they focus more on design and camera angle than animation/choregraphy at least for TV (for OAV and movie they are at same level than other studio)

@chevalierkraken Yoo, didn't think I'd get a reply from MAL in general (barely use it anymore, that too to store anime entries), let alone from a post this old. And yea, I pretty much agree with everything u said. This post is from a time when I knew jack about animation. Seeing those cuts now really makes me appreciate it.
And I haven't seen Deen's latest works so can't really comment on how they're doing nowadays sadly.
