| Aliens are using avatars to interact with real humans. Imagine if (some time in the future), you could use your VR and control a machine to interact with the world. That's basically what it is. Exploring the world from the safety of your home! |

| There are no aliens in the story (some of the Gadoll designs look pretty alien-esque in nature though). The ones playing the game are robots. I assume, even though they don't really get into fleshing out this lore too well, that their origin is supposed to be assumed to be Earth. They're only operating from a spaceship just outside the planet because Earth is an uninhabitable wasteland dump, which is why the only living things on it (in/around the Deca-dence fortress) have to be protected by a dome. |
| They are not aliens, they are Cyborgs old human created and left in taking care of the world after human destroyed themselves. They were left to make sure the continual of human species even if it's just a small zoo of humans inside Deca dence. Deca Dence is like an Ark of the last remaining humans in the world. The Cyborgs up in space are the Administrators (System) that foresee and manages everything. While everything is supposed to be controlled by the system, the each Cyborgs have their own individuality like a soul. But those that astray too much from the System's mandate are marked as a "BUG" and thus Elminiated / Assasinated. They were meant to hide the fact from humans that cyborgs are running the planet, so anyone that discover that also gets assesinated like Natsumi's father. |
| Near the end the original System said she was born in the old ruin city as she was explaining to Kaburagi. The cyborgs are clearly sentient but like in plastic doll, have a limited run time. This was all implied right at the beginning. Sounded like humans messed up Earth and the computer system saved a small colony where the cyborgs have there entertainment. It’s a symbiotic relationship run autonomous by the main system. |
