| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Gone With The Snow. Thus ends the Once Upon a Time arc. I'll admit, the content in the first two volumes I found a lot more interesting, though I think this last third had a lot less of the words instead of pictures issue. It was rather interesting how this story began with the ending of Astro Boy and ended with his origin stories, even seeing his birth and death intersect with each-other. Makes me wonder why this wasn't saved for the end of collection, and makes me wish Astro Boy had some longer serialized stories. Never read or watched Gone with the Wind, so I failed to pick up any of the parallels there but even during a cursory glance at it makes the inspiration obvious, like the main character being called Scarlett O'Hara, the names of Scara and Ohara literally just come from the main character. I think the way that was added into the story at the end here was sort of poetic, as it functions both as the professor answering Astro's question while also commenting on Scara & Ohara leaving them. |
| And so the arc ends. For a second I was thinking that Tezuka won't finish the Scara subplot, but he did. The arc itself is really great and there's only one problem I have with it and that's the death of "original" Astro in the past. With "original" Astro dead the "new" Astro is bound to repeat the events of this arc and die only to be replaced with another Astro who will suffer the same fate. In short this arc is bound to happen over and over again in the Astro Boy universe. |
