| It's a great episode, but I had to dislike it. Tomozaki isn't in the position yet to discard the masks he is developing. It's problematic long term, but in the short term, they're great for developing social intuition. eta: To be fair to Tomozaki, it seems that he doesn't feel anything for Kikuchi and has better chemistry for Mimimi at that other girl with similar hairstyle. Technically, if he said that let's stop dating or that he does not feel anything for her, that is technically fulfilling the mission objective. |

| Wow Tomozaki realized the nature of masks and selves. He did learn a lot from Aoi, but she also lacks empathy and standard elements of humanity. She must have some troubles in her own past. I also understand Tomozaki's issues with Kikuchi; I was recently in a similar situation myself. I went on a few dates with someone from a dating app, and I think we both realized that, though we got along, there were crucial differences between us that didn't line up, deeper structural elements to our persons. I like how Mizusawa's confession to Aoi foreshadowed the rest of the episode and also brought to light these ideas to Tomozaki. I am super curious how this first season will end. |
| Finally we get to see Hinami's true colors. Reading some comments, yes, Hinami has a facade just like a number of people in this show have been shown to have as well. But there's a general difference between her and the others. For whatever reason, she is not able to truly provide human emotion, the others eventually take of their mask. Meanwhile Hinami is always "faking it". It's why I can't really get myself to like her, even in her scenes alone with Tomozaki. All her scenes seemed to be like an 'act', she hardly ever seems genuine or you can't really tell when she is being that way. Even when it is possible she is, she plays it off (ex: was she for the kiss if Tomozaki hadn't stopped her?). It is one thing to come across as confident but she comes off as cocky and better than everyone. The teaching parts with Tomozaki didn't help that persona. To be fair, she has been shown to have skills better than everyone (possibly by hard work?). I really wonder how she does it. But it is difficult to root for a girl that has no weaknesses, I always know what to expect from her when she's on screen. I don't want to feel like this. I want to like her because I'd be shocked if she and Tomozaki aren't end-game. This had to happen to progress the story. And it's obvious that Tomozaki will have some sort of influence on pulling out the real her (though unlikely in the next episode). I am hopeful that this is a turning point and I'll grow to like her. Only time will tell... I can say one thing, this show has elicited emotions in me that I haven't felt in some time :) . I do think it's a good show and I do think Hinami is an interesting character. |
