There's a manga by the same name which was released in Jan 2020 and is still ongoing. So far, there are 9 scanlated English chapters.

the original source is a stage reading play written by bun-o fujisawa, i think its adapting the manga though

Yeah so it’s a stage play that announced an anime adaptation, which is this, and a manga adaptation but that started back a bit ago and Seven Seas manga has licensed said series into English

Looking at the trailers I thought it reminded me of the video game Code Vein (which had some other games closely similar to it as well but I do not know the names of...)

Interesting to know it was based on a manga/stage play.
The name "Mars Red" did sound familiar to me but I do not know from where I first heard the name...
