Dont know if this wants to have any connection with the old series, probably not.
So just go and watch the old one.

as you probably know by now, it has nothing to do with the old series. The older series is a psychological anime where BRS was fighting in the mind scape of girls.

This is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi show.

I think not reboot and not sequel to Ova or TV Series is separate universe example Black Rock Shooter The Game PSP and Black Rock Shooter manga different story

Look like Multiverse Black Rock Shooter similar to DC and Marvel had own reality story

This series is very different from the older tv series with both having different environments and settings so I think you can just watch this series straight away😄
