A lot of anime handle time skips very poorly, and to be fair it is a hard production technique to pull off. Kill la Kill in episode 19 (or 18??) show an intense fight going on in the stadium, and next thing we know there is a one month time skip. All they showed was a big explosion going off, and boom time skip.

Either were supposed to believe an explosion against a literal goddess worked, or they really just rushed the fuck out of the anime

I don't think you watched the anime properly, or you've forgotten what happened since you last saw it.

It's made quite clear that the explosion did nothing to Ragyo, and instead just covered the remains of Satsuki's forces and Nudist Beach to escape, and the month afterward was spent resisting the Covers, waiting for Ryuuko to recuperate and to find a way to rescue Satsuki.
Well I for one already loved Lain.
