97 berserk is the best version of the berserk anime and it's an amazing adaptation for what they adapted. 97 berserk to me is honestly a masterpiece. But when people talk about berserk anime they ALWAYS bring up the CGI version. Everytime people talk about the berserk anime they always says it never had a good adaptation as if this version doesn't exist it's so weird. Not only that but every time a streaming service gets license to the berserk anime do they get this version? NOPE they get all the CGI versions of berserk. It's like this version of berserk doesn't exist to 98 percent of the population or something and it's literally the best version of the anime.

The visuals were limited, but this adaptation got the most right, the essence of the manga could be easily felt and the music was phenomenal,i still listen to gut's theme.

It’s best compare to others , the reason they haven’t talk about it is relevance and too much stop motion stills and most importantly; at that time TV is the most important way to telecast anime and no one came forward to telecast it…, due to excessive gore and nudity

Imo, Golden age arc was the peak of berserk. So 97' anime is the right package if u don't want to read the manga.

Yeah no, people bring this adaption up plenty of times. Usually whenever someone utters the words Berserk and anime in one sentence, the first thing people do is shit on the CGI version and the second thing they do is recommend this version.

well, you could say it's finished and kinda old. and the cgi crap is ongoing and contunues after this one, so it would make sense that you hear it more often. but 97 series is clearly the best out of all adaptations.

figures. because as good as this adaptation gets, it is still way weaker than the manga, so better to read it from the very source

Where? I frequent /r/berserk and every time someone asks about getting into Berserk they are almost unanimously told to
1. Read the manga
2. Watch the 97 anime
3. Avoid the 2017 anime

Well, let’s appreciate the fact that Berserk 97 removed one of the most awful parts of the Berserk manga, the character of Wyald

Check out Berserk Redux - google it for where to watch it. It’s a fan-made compilation of all the berserk anime movies, shows, etc., in chronological order.

It's considered the best adaption made so far but I'd say it's the best entry to Berserk and the best version of Golden Age arc. It has a smoother transition from a light medieval fantasy setting to a crude dark fantasy setting (Wyald and Skull Knight ruins this in the manga). Even though I don't really care about spoilers, if someone new read the manga from beginning to the end of GA arc, they wouldn't find Griffith's fate as impactful as the anime version. Plus, a great OST. I always recommend first anime 97 and if you liked it, then read the manga.

let’s just say he incarnate the parts of Berserk where Miura didn’t know what to right and basically filled entire chapters with unnecessary and not contextualized violence, he is basically an *rgy and r*pe monster, just that, without any further writing, apart from being envious of Zodd. Most people don’t talk about that, but Berserk’s writing is not always that focused, there are these moments of pure pain to read

yeah for anime, it's the best version till now, although the new anime for berserk didn't set very high standards for that. manga of berserk is still the best way to consume it, but there is one thing i love about the 97 berserk anime. the guts ost! that music slaps!

Everyone agrees that the ‘97 Berserk anime is the best adaptation, but I highly disagree with your point that no one knows or talks about it because this is extremely inaccurate and untrue. Perhaps the reason why some people decide to talk about 2016/2017 Berserk is that it’s a lot more recent and it’s an absolute joke of an adaptation. And even as good as ‘97 anime is, it’s considerably weaker than the source material, for which most people tend to recommend the manga over any adaptation. Also it’s funny that you are creating discussion about the best adaptation when you haven’t even read the manga (just an observation).

Really good, but not perfect. Considering every other version is garbage, it’s not difficult for this to be the best Berserk adaptation.
I still think the manga is the best way to experience the series. For how much I love Guts’ theme, Miura’s art is superior and should be experienced at its fullest!

I couldn't agree more with everything outlined in your post OP, from the entire spirit down to the last letter.

Is it just because the film trilogy (2012 - 2013) and the reboot/sequel series disaster (2016 - 2017) are newer than this, the original anime series (1997 - 1998), so maybe not more people have seen them compared to the '97 iteration in total, but more people who are presently active and engaged online discussing anime in the current year/past few years have seen them?

Because I never even knew of Kenpuu Denki Berserk or anything to do with the Berserk name and series' existence at all until I watched this series, one of my few 10/10s, for the first time in 2018. And when I decided to watch it and began, all it took to do so was reading for a few minutes and hearing from my cousin that the 2016 one and all newer versions were low quality modern CGI trash and being able to easily ascertain that for myself as well after only glancing at their promotional material for mere seconds. So I watched the excellent one and didn't care about anything else, never looking back (I later did watch only the third film from the film series just because it goes very slightly further in time story-wise at the end).

Only to hear the majority of people complaining about how bad the new versions, especially 2016 are dominate the discussions revolving around Berserk in the context of anime; many of whom never watched the 1997 one at all. So I ask, why not? I don't want to hear "because it's older" as if the only people who would/should be interested in it watched it when it was airing or shortly thereafter back in 1997. That's of course not the case. As I said, I didn't watch it or ever hear one word about it until 2018! So there's nothing stopping anyone else.
