For me this show started off great and progressively got worse as it went along. By the end of s3 I actively despised it. Beyond the horrific animation quality I just didn't like the personality progression of the main characters.
Does anyone think this season has done anything that would change my opinion of the show? Has it changed for the better or just continued on the same trajectory as previous seasons?

I really liked it, but if you are actively despising it then it’s probably time to call it quits.

Did you not expect a series called overlord to not be about a bad guy? He was bad from the jump but played the role to learn things and as he gained more knowledge he became more open. I mean by season. 2 he literally conquered the lizard men that is full blown villiany

Since you said you really hated it, you have no reason to give this anime a chance anymore, go watch something else, and this is coming from someone who likes Overlord.

Don't bother watching Overlord anymore, seriously.

As of right now, no. Theres nothing that really stands out so far in this season. It might get exciting next episode but the summer season is almost done.

The season does give you a clearer opinion of Ainz's mindset (as in he is completely lost in what his guardians think he is planning lol) though, so if thats the only reason you dont like it then you might like this season. I dont think any of the characters have really developed except for Shalltear.

I personally love the story as a whole and read ahead from all available LN. But If you hated Ainz and his mad villainy in S3 massacring that army…all I can say is more mad villainy is coming in S4 and in the movie that takes place before the S4 in the timeline…

ainz was never a good guy, just fyi in his previous world he doesnt care about anything except Yggdrasil and his ingame friend

he see an orphan dying on the street and he will just walk by and go to work, this is what people got wrong thinking ainz is good guy at the start... no he is not, he was never a good guy

the only reason why he doesnt do genocide at the beginning is because it would not benefit nazarick.... thats all

Season 4 is as boring as season 3 so far. It's like the author doesn't know where to go with the story. It's all so slow and visionless.

MC has this goal to figure out if there are other players in the world, and then to find out who was strong enough to "hypnotize" shalltear and so he has to expand his empire and that's all these last seasons have been about. We're still dealing with new "trash" characters that can be discarded any moment. It's such a simplistic-boring-linear story that it's starting to put me off. It's like one big filler so far.

I agree that it definitely got worse as it went on but to the point of actively despising it seems like a YOU problem lol. From what I can tell, you essentially dislike a core part of the show so I don’t think you should continue watching it

Maybe my memory is bad it's been a long time since I saw the first two seasons but that isn't the impression I remember having. What I remember is he was a normal guy (yeah he played a villain in the game but that was just a game plenty of people play the "bad guys" in mmos it doesn't make them cold blooded killers irl) and the fun and interesting conflicts in the show came about with him trying to find a way to work with his new role while internally just wanting to make friends and have fun. I don't remember him ever internally being malicious or psychopathic, it was just too much of a stretch seeing him quickly turn from having that struggle to just embracing being truly evil. Maybe it's just the fault of anime having so little time and character development being skipped over, that happens often with anime. I have enjoyed plenty of stories about bad guys in the past but for some reason this one just didn't sit right with me, his transition just didn't feel natural or well earned.

yes the anime lack of his backstory, maybe this will give you better understanding of why he is the way he is right now

he is maybe average guy but not our world average guy,in his world mega corporation rule the world, its so bad that everyone that is not high class live badly and poor, everyone basically a slave

their world is full of toxin fog and acid rain, everytime he get out to work he must use special type of mask and etc, there is no food like we eat, people like him eat suplement for vitamin and tasteless jellylike thing for energy, only rich people can buy fruit and eat quality food

his mother died of overworked,he doesnt have any family or friends,he is alone in that world,he doesnt have a reason to live,he doesnt care about other people life or whatever happened... until he played Yggdrasil and meet his friend, this moment changed his life

now he have reason, whenever he got home he will play, most of his money he used to play this game, his friend are the most important things in his life

now back to the anime, from what i write above do you think he will care about human life?all his reason to kill other human is simple, because its benefit the people he care the most

i liked season 3 way less because it focused on other characters.
season 4 has its fair share of atrocities, but witnessing ainz's internal struggle makes the story more relatable, you can see him losing touch with his former human sensibility and I think that's one of the best points of the show.

gods, you're extremely blind. the story is simply the quest of Satori, now in Momonga's body to live. sadly, Ainz was cast as a villainous guild...

what we're seeing is Ainz the character trying to carve Nazarick's "Proper" place in this new world as well as looking for more ygdrassil players

I mean, the whole premise is that he’s turning into his character(evil). If you dislike that you won’t like the rest of the series. But if you want to look past the “too quickly” part which I disagree with. Then you might find it more enjoyable.

Obviously you may not enjoy every aspect of something but you may enjoy something if you try to look past certain short comings.

Generally that works for most things and all anime IMO.

Season 3 was not a great season I would agree. Since watching 4, I thought the beginning (1-2eps) were kind of about a lot of political stuff. But after that it got so much better. I’m really enjoying this season and I looked forward to the day it comes out every week. I would recommend giving it another try. If it still isn’t for you, drop it, no harm done.

Absolutely not. I was a little bummed about how season 3 was but after watching this new season, I don’t think I’m gonna watch the rest of it. There have only been 2 fight scenes so far and one of them is over in 30 seconds. I personally wouldn’t waste my time. It’s really disappointing cuz I loved season 1 and 2

You should drop it, if you truly feel that way.
I mean I like it because of the violence. Because the humans are unlikable and how good the doujinshi's are. But that sort of surface level enjoyment won't work for a lot people.
