| Glad someone made a thread about this, because I was wondering about this myself. I have read the manga, but I'm thinking of watching this with someone who hasn't (whenever this movie is available for streaming or hopefully gets released in theaters that is...). I heard that this movie diverges and does its own thing and focuses on one of the other characters as the protagonist. I could be wrong, but that gives me the impression that this movie can be watched as a standalone. |

| It can be watched without having read or seen the anime. The whole match and story is fine but remember that there will be moments where you may not understand everything about the characters or the relations between them, so you will naturally assume a lot of things. Still definitely enjoyable as a standalone |
