This is just the conclusion I came up. Pretty sure that it’s not 100% correct. Just hear me out

Every being has Tao but not everyone can use it. If you can use tao the you can heal your wounds that where dealt without tao, because the flow of Tao wasn’t interrupted. Only Tao can interrupt the flow. (If your body somehow loses all its Tao you die)

For example when one of the saints was cut in half, roots cam out and just build the body new or reconnect the parts. Or last ep when the woodface fought against the brothers and lost his underarm the wood just rebuild it. So if one of the humans can use tao then it would look like the bones and the muscles and the blood would be recreated and stuff.

It might be wrong because I thought the tan or holy fruit is the reason why you got this self heal. But I don’t think the saints would share it with their students or what they are. And the woodface guy said that aslong they don’t use tao he can’t be hurt meaning he can always just heal the wounded part.
So the tan might just give you the body like the saints. A body of roots, you can switch the gender, and always stay young.
In the clip where Gabimaru master was attacked and swords where in his head and stuff but he still didn’t die, Gabimaru said that’s maybe because he ate from the fruit (tan) and came to the conclusion something that makes you immortal must exist. I think the master just could use tao and is just unaffected by attacks without Tao.

Does that make sense? Am I wrong?

the tao is a real world religious concept, that chinese and presumably japanese are quite familiar with. so when an anime uses the word tao, it implies alot of things us non-asians are simply not familiar with.
you can look up daoism on the internet, if you want to know more. Religion for breakfast has an interesting series on his YT channel about Daoism, which I recommend

It's like Nen from Hunter x Hunter, or Ki/Chi from Dragon Ball Z and other japanese manga/anime media.

Also, look up what PoisonedSandwich said.
"Chimp in state of nature never jerks off, but in captivity he does, wat does this mean? In state of nature he’s too busy, to put plainly. He is concerned with mastering space: solving problem of life in and under trees, mastering what tools he can, mastering social relations in the jockeying for power and status. Deprived of this drive to development and self-increase he devolves to pointless masturbation, in captivity, where he senses he is in owned space and therefore the futility of all his efforts and all his actions."

Fun fact :

In Filipino language, Tao means Human. It's pronounced as Ta-o.

I'm quite amazed after having this realization.

The first part is slightly wrong about the part where “everyone cannot use it”, it’s more like not everyone is able to control it due to lack of skill I guess, the rest seems to line up with what I understood from the manga.
Second part and especially the village chief part is wrong, probably gonna be in the final couple episodes for that explanation but you did your best imo and with no further information this was a good guess/deduction

Ah and what I meant with not everyone can use it, I think we meant it the same way. Everyone has it by few know about it. If you don’t know about it you can’t use it. Blind assaemon might know and senses that something like Tao exist but he can’t really use it.
If you can’t use it you can’t control it🤷‍♀️

That’s what I thought too first but I think tao is slightly different because with ki you are just vulnerable against fewer things. It’s like having several shields around you. With tau you are still vulnerable against a lot but as long as the attacks are not Tao it won’t harm you

There’s is a lot in common but with ki attacks won’t touch you (like against jiren where goku and hit against his ki wall) and with Tao nothing will harm you bc you recover instantly cause Tao flow wasn’t interrupted

But everything else or most of the things should be the same
