I just realized something weird.. Kitasan Black is black, Daiwa Scarlet is scarlet, but Gold Ship is not gold!

Also I don't really remember, didn't Teio was the last to join the Spica team? I don't remember Kitasan joined before

YESS that is excitement when i watch every season !!

repeating plot make this boring AF !!

Agree. The plot is too repetitive with girl of the season format

There's also only 1 live in this season, did the studio somehow forget about that lol
@LeonLanford The live are polished as hell in the gacha, so it would be a waste to use it outside of final of the season

A couple things surprised me going into the 3rd season of Uma Musume.

First, there's a strong sense of community throughout the series, but I think this season truly focused on that aspect. There's always been a culture of horse girls in the series, where the world feels developed and built around horse girl racing. Tracen Academy is not just an isolated location that exists in a vacuum. It really feels like all of Japan, if not the whole world, revolves around horse girls, yet the population of horse girls aren't necessarily the dominant species. They just sort of exist, and the world also continues to exist with them, as if that's how it's always been. No question is made about why they are, nor how the continue to be, but these horse girls really do feel integrated into their world, and the world reciprocates by building around them.

Second, I love the feeling of continuous legacies in the series. Not many franchises have the luxury of multiple seasons dedicated to their brand, and Uma Musume takes advantage of this by having each season focus on two characters max. There are a number of peripheral characters that push these characters' stories forward, and there's constant reoccurring characters in the background whom either get their focus spots in various episodes, or in future seasons where they're the actual focus. I enjoy this character balance much more than trying to focus on too many characters in a limited amount of time. It gives time to flesh out a season's core characters, but it also remembers provide mentions to its supporting cast.

Lastly, I'm constantly impressed by how Uma Musume truly is a sports anime. In spite of the ridiculous premise, I don't think I've seen the concept of "fighting until your fire burns out" in a sports anime since Ashita no Joe. Uma Musume is interesting given how it follows the stories of real life race horses. Due to this, each horse has a definitive beginning and ending to their stories. In previous seasons, those horses had to contend with injuries and illness. Here in season 3, Kitasan had to contend with her own limited time as a race horse. I like how Gold Ship hinted at this early on, handing her unfulfilled legacy to Kitasan. Seeing Kitasan aspire toward international fame, then settle for fulfilling the dreams of her closest supporters made for a kind and uplifting conclusion to her arc. Recalling Ashita no Joe again, it reminds me of that spirit of a community looking up to a local hero.

Never thought I'd see the day where I could compare a character from one of Osamu Dezaki's masterpieces to an anime about anthropomorphized horse girl idols racing in frilly dresses, but here I am.

Pretty good, but closer to S1 level than the God-tier S2. Kita as a subject is just harder to manufacture a story around than McQueen/Teio/Rice/Bourbon. Kita was just a really good, really consistent horse the managed to avoid injury and rack up trophies at a steady pace. The fact they offscreened some G1 wins says it all. They did what they could, and I liked the whole "fading from your peak" aspect. Diamond breaking the curse was probably my fav arc. The season was arguably more interesting when she was involved, but Kita was just the much more successful horse irl so it is what it is.

It's still better than most other sports anime in that it has the hype of sport but none of the manufactured results (since it's based on real life which is always gonna be more nuanced). That Kita vs Dura dramatic rival race that ended with some rando winning instead was a good example, you would never get that in a fully scripted show.

THANK YOUU KITASAN BLACKK!!! An amazing race to end her career, with cultural impact not far from Teio's last race.

I really enjoyed this season, I love the relationship that the main casts have, they're so cute and wholesome. Wish Duramente had more screentime though.

i feel like this season had a lot of wasted potential. we saw kitasan and diamond for 2 previous seasons looking up to mcqueen and teio, only for their time to come and their idols are in the season for maybe 5 minutes? kitasan and diamonds relationship was never really displayed in the way i thought, underwhelming. the ost was okay, maybe leaning more towards good, but it just didnt stick out to me much. one thing that annoyed me was how kitasan would just yell for 10+ seconds everytime she ran, i skipped over all of it after a while. duramente and some of the other uma musume were given potential as a rival but it was also never expanded on..they became background characters basically. duramente literally contributed nothing to the show. overall a 7/10 and even that is pushing it

They really are melodramatic xD Although season 2 was even more melodramatic >.< They create a super drama out of nowhere xD

Since season 1 finished, this franchise started to feel/be very repetitive and cliche.
There were lots of uninteresting and filler episodes which didn´t add much in my opinion. It feels like this anime could have been done in just 6 episodes or so.

In general it was okay-ish season, slightly better than season 2 in my opinion.

Season 1 is genuinely the best and most enjoyable season out of the 3 seasons.

If they ever decide to give the franchise a breath of fresh air, then in that case I would welcome and be happy with a possible season 4.
@Vi- great to know there were some of us who believes in Season 1 supremacy!

Kitasan went out with a bang! She's the fireworks at the end of summer festival~
An intrusive thought of mine think it would be funny if Sounds of Earth won lol
Love how Kitasan's new costume is reminiscent of Teio and Rudolf! Perhaps to crown her as the new emperor

I'm glad that they brought back Suzuka from 天国 this season, but the lack of OG Spe content was disturbing
Turns out that Trainer and Spica didn't get much contribution this time too just like in Season 2. The focus was clearly at Kitasan and sprinkled a bit with her generation's friends like Diamond, Crown and Cheval... Season 2 & 3's formula clearly didn't work well for me

I'll give this season an 8/10 just like Season 2 while Season 1 got 9/10 heheh
The OP hasn't clicked with me but I'm glad the ED is clearly inspired by Season 1!

- Kitasan's yell while running reminds me of Jericho Trumpet ehe -

Great finale, man did the animation was impressive especially the concert and 7 G1 races is absolutely insane, i'm not the biggest fan of Kitasan but i definitely rooted for her this one last time also her last racing dress looked great

So yeah overall i prefered this season to the second one, more compelling stories told, NO INJURIES EVERY 5 MINUTES, a constant animation and great adds to the cast (Bakushin,Sound of Earth,Cheval Grand)

Solid 7/10

Seeing Kitasan in the racing outfit that her whole team helped put together for her got me in the feels man. They really made her something special for her final race. And a great final race it was for her; for everyone cheering her onwards, she puts absolutely everything out on the line, and finishing in first, and surpassing even her idol Tokai Teio.

You got me, season 3. Really didn't like you all the way up to episode 8. But with episode 9 and on towards the end, somehow it just clicked. Even though 2/3 of the season was weak imo, it's okay; because finishing strong is far more important than starting out strong. So yeah, definitely could've been better and maybe even may have reached the heights that season 2 did, but by no means is it a fail. In fact, even the beautifully-directed and animated movies that were released after this did not pack as much emotion as this, imho. And that's what matters to me most in Uma Musume.

It gets the seal of approval. 7/10. It was wobbling all over the racetrack for the most part. But when the end drew near and it really mattered, it locked in and bolted straight across the finish line.
