WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE LN AND THE FIRST 5 EPISODES OF THE ANIME

I just want to discuss this somewhere because I after getting to episode 3 I BINGED the whole of the LN that is out in English so far and almost everything has been very faithful to the LN other than a few key things.

To honest I like the anime changes to Alicia. Alicia is supposably the heroine of the anime. Hating someone just because they have black hair, and calling them a demon lord every chance they get in my eyes makes Alicia the villainess instead. The shadow that looms over Yumielia. Plus the curiosity Alicia has about Yumielia being Demon Lord might give her a different sense of character. I don't think it change the story into something new.

@Moppit Yeah I don't necessarily think it is bad, it's just a very drastic change and I'm wondering how they will keep it from changing the course of the story. Unless they actually will change the story, which might not be bad depending upon how they write it. It just has me very curious.

Really don't think it will change so drastically it will be another story. They can make some creative differences to improve the original but they have to keep somewhat honest to the source. I have seen animes some of the characters is nothing like the ones I read in the LN. The story was still the same.

Having not read the LN I like these changes. Unless it turns out Alicia is another reincarnator it doesn’t seem to make much sense to me that she would hate Yumiella just as a prejudice, she’s meant to be this sweeter than sweet heroine in the game world after all

@Moppit I mean her disliking Yumiella is kind of important to the story. I can imagine ways they can change it without straying too far from the source, but it's still going to be a change to the overall story and it won't be small.

@pandacyborg yeah, I dont dislike this take on the character. Its just a drastic change and i wonder how it will affect the story. Also I would recommend reading the novels! Only 3 are out in English so far but they are really fun reads! I'm pretty sure this whole season will only be the first novel.

I read a bit of the manga and so far except for the beginning of episode 1 it’s the same. The black blob is how she sees her in the manga. I know MAL says it’s based on the LN but maybe it’s actually based on the manga.

Most anime draw from both the Light Novel & their manga adaptations, so it's possible that it's a combination of the two.

Not exactly a major change, & it's not something that makes me want to say the adaptation is bad, but in the Light Novel, when Yumiella turns down the offer of marrying Prince Edwin, the Queen suggests the possibility of adopting Yumiella into the Royal family regardless of whether or not Yumiella married the prince, but didn't formally propose it because she knew Yumiella would turn her down. In spite of everything the Queen tells Yumiella to think of her as a mother, regardless of everything.

Like I said, the fact that they didn't adapt this in the anime isn't offensive to me, but it would have been nice to see. Regardless of the changes, in the anime & Light Novel, the King & Queen are really awesome in the empathy & kindness they show Yumiella (especially the Queen). It makes me wonder how Prince Edwin fell off in spite of that. lol.

I think the biggest issue with Alicia's attitude change is how they'll explain / handle vol 1 ending spoiler

While she's not as much of a hateful bigot in the anime, & while she has apologized for her false accusation of Yumiella, she doesn't seem to like or really trust her either (she may no longer believe Yumiella's the Demon Lord, but she is still cautious of her) & they're far from being friends or allies. With that being the case, there's still not a lot that has been changed from the Light Novel, concerning her character in the anime, so I imagine it won't drastic change the sequence of events going forward.

They are just following the manga version of Alicia, who ALSO sees her as evil blob of darkness and is not prejudiced at all.

Sadly, while very good, the manga is slow paced and have many hiatuses, so we still not even close to the part when she goes irredeemable and do the

Anyway, I hate most "Heroine Bad" trope from Otome Villainess Isekais, so I am glad we moving past that on this story version.

Interesting. I'll pick up the LN once the anime ends so I could see which version of the story is better

As a novel reader Alicia's humanization and the at least basic attempts to tone down the idiot capture targets, I'm really curious as to where this is going to go. The first arc in the novel is not only quite short but also ends.... in a rather grim fashion.

Yeah, like someone else said, this is more based off the manga than the LN. I'm not sure if it's because the author has had time to review and reconsider choices made or if editorial oversight is preventing them from going full edgelord, but it seems the farther away from the WN we go, the better off we are. The anime's first episode already did a solid job giving some degree of characterization to the original MCs, which they sorely needed. The only issue of relying on the manga is that we're already about to hit the edge of what the manga has covered. Maybe they can get the mangaka to help with the storyboard.

Regarding the ending, I don't think there will be any major changes from the LN.

seems like the original plot was actually interesting unlike this bland no flavour adaption

I really hate it how alicia is almost never bullied by anyone even though she's an otome game protagonist
And her being extremely racist and ignorant would make it worse tbh
