Manji is not weak, but has very good skills.

The fact that he somehow ruined his fate through bloodworms, he still hopes to reach mortality.

I don't think it's how the sentence was, but anyway, i'm fairly certain that he was talking about Manji's psychological state, rather than his fighting capacities. That would makes way more sense for an Author.

Well, I quoted with my own words, but the idea is the same, this is what Hiroaki says: "a person who never reveals his or her own weaknesses to others, but who at the same time is not as unassailable powerful as he or she may seem." Here we refer to an ideal hero, but we include Manji, that's how he was conceived, that's where the idea comes from! And yes, I have heard many people say this, a weak character and together with a child, that the story has no meaning, etc. For me Blade of the Immortal is the best series (Anime/Manga) ever seen/read, it's something unique and I thank Samura for this work!
