The copyrights is CR exclusive, hence not many people watch this in my country. I find back my MAL accounts and this is my first post.

1. During the conversation, almost all of charactors only move their mouths, and the expressions on their faces keep same all the time.
2. Full of panning movement. Black March Yuri's one exit from a scene is actually completed by panning her face out of the frame, disapppearance of angle change of her face is really hilarious.

For some reason, I'm reminded of Queen Bee's PowerPoint animation.
What carry this episode is only Kevin Penkin and Voice Actors.

@hKonata I consider that S1 is much better than S2.

Because I did not feel unnormal and joking while watching S1.

Also, the English Audio of S1 is amazing and marvelous. But no Eng Audio of S2 has been seen.

@hKonata Season 1 did have a handful of scenes with good animation. Specially the fourth episode which was animated solo by Masahiko Murata.

I've seen a guy write 2000-word reviews on why Dungeon Meshi was the biggest disappointment of the season and a terribly boring 1/10 anime after only 1 episode came out lol. You'll always find people who can't wait to hate on a show.

Fully agree the previous art style was a cool choice. And this episode felt so dull and terrible. Which sucks. Loved s1 but this quality looks like the level we had 15 years ago for bad anime. Insane that it looks this bad. Also the OP is a paper cut out slideshow? I mean I guess it’s “unique” but just super lame imo.

I'm talking about the poor production, instead of the plot. The first episode which had the longest time to prepare has already fell apart like this and you actually expect the later ones to be better, is this your first day watching anime?

I just re-watched season 1 today, before watching this episode. I really liked season 1 but this new season has definitely worse voice actors, art and overall tone and style. It's very noticeable that it's a different studio, and it's not to my liking.

I have not read the manhwa. I am not a big fan of where the story went with time skip, and this whole life on the 20th floor. The story in season 1 was much better, in my opinion. Feels like we went from unique to generic. It's not Shield Hero season 2 bad. I do hope I'll like it more after a few episodes.

@GTRaijin Thanks. I must say that is a good comparison then. I was just comparing the art style of the first ep of season 1 to this season's and I am disgusted and shocked that more people aren't disappointed. At least Queen Bee can stimulate me in a positive way...this art only arouses bewilderment and wonder of how one of the most anticipated anime's this Summer is getting this treatment.

I'm reminded of One-Punch Man season 2 with this so far.

The animation took a huge dip in quality. It boggles my mind that people think it looks better. Like how the animation is obviously cutting corners every time they walk and talk. Oh but that fight scene bro... yeah that was passible, you could barely feel any weight in that fight. And animating flashy effects from the hands is one of the easiest things to do in animation or at least in my opinion. The animation is barely passible, I've seen worse but for the story they want to tell they should have gotten a better studio and budget. My guess is after this we don't get a season 3. Hate to say it but people do need their eye candy.

@Gray_eminence a non-profit fan made production would have done better than this first episode, lol, I don't know why you're so angry that people criticize this poor animated product, when we waited 4 years for a 2 season and we largely disappointed with this first episode. the cinematography is all over the place in the first episode ... so many panning shots, weird cuts and transitions that just feel off or pointless.
nevermind how generic the artstyle looks now - is it cheaper to animate? Probably.
But geez the character models have a lot of same face syndrome now and lack depth of expression.
now if only the battle choreography and animation or the backgrounds or color palette were above average this could still be visually nice enough to watch but nope... it all looks like it was a bit rushed or like done as cheaply as possible.

Reading so much shitposting on this ep made me think just how bad did they do it?
And to my surprise I honestly didn't find much difference other than the character designs
The animation is definitely not slideshow like some people said it was
And the fight scene was really gd though I do think they could've done better with the hand movements

Unfortunately, I have to kind of agree. The art style itself is fine, it isn't a problem at all.

However it is very clear that the animation had huge corner cutting during production. Mostly static shots with minimal animation, very primitive scene cuts, ragged low-fps movement (at times feels like minimum possible frames). I mean, simply compare the shots\panoramas from the same scenes in the webtoon\manhwa. It is a staggering simplification, that cannot be denied.

Even the sound design is lacking - Penkin is a god, but his tracks were just slammed into the scenes, with a minimal transition and design. Compare it to how the music and picture was composed in S1 episodes. Also a lot of reused tracks, which Penkin itself doesn't like to do (so studios cutting corners again).

Yes this is only a first episode. But it is even more worrying, as this is part of a pilot that has been produced for a while as a showcase. It might get even worse with time.

Yes, not every studio is MAPPA or ufotable. But it is sad to see the potential of the source material to be wasted with such little care. It's even worse because however it performs now, it might not get better. If it performs well in markets regardless, the same studio will spend the same amount of effort. If it fails, the chance that better studios or better care spent on it will grow even slimmer.

At least (so far) it stays at good enough pacing and with no changes from the source, so the hope dies last.

Worst case in a couple of years we will have generative AI either helping the studios to improve the production, or have a full-blown personalized generation accessible to the common folks.

Aspects That Can Improve Over The Season:
* Plot
* Characters
* Theme

But there are many things that will stay the same from episode 1 until the rest of the season, so it is fair to criticize those things.
Aspects That Stay The Same With 95% Chance:
* Art Style/Quality
* Animation Style/Quality
* Soundtracks

I'm also a big fan of Tower of God. But if you are not willing to criticize the show for the art, animation, and sound from episode 1, then you are just talking emotionally, not logically.

I've read a decent amount of the Manhwa (until one of the recent hiatuses), and I'm enjoying this season so far. They have an interesting style for the OP, similarly with the ED theme they keep a secret and slowly reveal each episode which I like. I'm also personally fine with the current level of art/animation.

But if the anime previously had better visual quality, and given the high standard of the manhwa, we shouldn't be calling people 'clowns' if they are disappointed due to a clear drop quality doesn't meet the standards that are already set. It is fair to uphold a work to high standards when a precedent is already set. I respect that you are satisfied, but just because it is good enough for you or me, it doesn't mean that we can ignore that the expectation set by season 1 is not being met so far which will lead to fans being disappointed.
