New improvements to your MAL experience never stop here! But recently, there are also new problems that may require fixes which I've provided.

New Super HD Cover Imports!

WHAT?! Even higher quality preview pics are now available for you! These are 300px across and a step-up from the HD covers we've been all using for over 12 years. I'll call them... Super HD covers.

They can be used alone or combined with any MALscraper imports you're already using. These new imports are also intended to (1) provide HD covers on private lists, (2) preload new series in order to prevent a user's newly-added anime from coming up temporarily missing, (3) fill in missing anime covers if a MALscraper import isn't perfectly working for you (some of you started having errors with them this year).

See the comparison shots below. The difference is probably only noticeable on PC.

                             Normal HD covers                                                   Super-HD covers

If you can't tell the difference on your PC, stay out of my FPS games.

How to use
These are for pretty much any layout using high-definition covers. Copy the import below which your layout would use (probably the first import). Paste it AFTER any Malscraper imports in the top lines of your animelist CSS. Preferably, they should go after a MALscraper import with your username. If you don't use a MALscraper import, you can simply paste it to the top of your CSS.

Only use one import at a time!

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/dataimagelinkbefore.css";

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/dataimagelinkafter.css";

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/more.css";

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/animetitle.css";

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/datatitlebefore.css";

As a backup, these imports also link to the MALscraper automatically-updating imports to preload any anime recently added to MAL. And although these are new imports I'm hosting on Github, the database found through the link is made from Azurewbsites's offline generator and edited to use the highest quality pics available in the MAL database. Although it is experimental, I've been testing the dataimagelinkbefore import for a few months and the covers are working great so far!

I found a missing cover?
There are few anime that don't have a super-HD cover pic in the database, so they need to be added to the list of covers in the code. Please report any missing covers so I can add them and send the update automatically to your layout! On a list with 5000 anime, we've only seen a couple of these missing covers. Your help can improve this project, so provide the link to any anime missing a super-HD preview pic!

Manga?
Manga versions of this are not available atm, maybe something on this later. As always use part B for further help:

My layout doesn't use these big preview pics?

Fixes for Takana Grid Layouts

The Storage live import has been ruined by the geniuses at Microsoft Onedrive offices; this import provided the Takana grid code to many users. Thankfully, I put a backup option in these layouts years ago, and I already sent the fix to users. You probably didn't even see the layout was broken!

However if your Takana Grid layout is still broken, please add this for a fix. Copy and paste the import to the top of your CSS.

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Layouts/Takana_Grid_Main.css";

ALL Takana Grid Layout users should add this backup import

DONT SKIP THIS IF YOU USE A TAKANA GRID LAYOUT

Even if your code is new or working fine after the recent crash, please add my new backup import so I can send updates to your layout if the current backup fails! It is empty for now. Paste it to the top of your CSS.

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Layouts/Takana_Grid_Backup.css";

Fixes for any missing or broken cover pics

Some layouts will have missing covers this week after Onedrive imports were broken by whatever changes the company made. If your animelist cover pics are not working for some reason, please try the new anime imports I provided at the top of the post.

And as always use part B for further help, more imports to try, and covers for mangalists:
https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2130234

Enhanced grid style layouts are possible now!

This particular section is only for CSS gods, or brave users willing to learn!

If you are good with CSS, or at least familiar with Inspect Element, you can actually increase the width of your preview pics to 300px for even larger preview pics on such layouts. Since the super-HD preview pics have a width of 300px, its now possible to have a layout with preview pics that large and they won't be blurry. Other adjustments may be needed, you can ask for help here if needed.

This is your layout from what I see

You need the import fix to show it to other ppl, part C
https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2130234

But your layout probably isnt a Takana Grid and doesn't need a backup import. The backup import I mentioned is for like, years from now if another big crash happens

@Shishio-kun Oh, yeahh, I see what you mean... I'm not great at coding so I just used the provided code like-so and didn't know I needed to fix it for other people to see it properly, but I'll get on it when I have the chance, thanks for telling me..^^'>3
For example, the images on the side show differently for me, and the background is different as well.

@Klefki_of_Awsome You just have to add a backslash to a couple lines at the top, all you gotta do is read part C and the backslash for copy and where to put them is right there quick and easy

Thank you so much for telling me about these fixes, I thought I was the only one having problems.

Covers are now darkened when I hover over them, and the day counter is back where it should be, but it looks like my filters are still broken. They're still stuck at the very top of the page and are blocked by the list buttons. Any way to fix this?

@Alkimia

remove the quote tags that got pasted into your code

add this

.status-menu-container {
position: fixed !important;
top: 0;
z-index: 1000 !important;
}

Is there a way to still use the super-hd preview pics when we aren't using the default one on MAL? For reference, I'd like to use this one for Castle in the Sky, but I can't seem to find an HD version: https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/1539/129891l.jpg

I dont know what you're asking exactly or what you mean by default one on MAL, you can use this without any other imports or whenever

To help me understand, let me know what's the problem exactly and what category is it on your list where I can see it, and how should it looked if fixed

@johneaston that replacement cover is the super hd version, and looks like you have the code to make it overwrite MAL and the imports, but it's commented out with /* in front of it

@Shishio-kun whoops, that's my bad. I didn't realize that the image I had linked in the list was still the old not-HD one. Sorry for the trouble.

@johneaston I still dont understand what you're asking about lol but maybe what you mean is "Can I use the super HD preview pics when I have images unchecked on this page"
https://myanimelist.net/editprofile.php?go=listpreferences

That's the "default one" you might be referring to. The small default cover pics. Yes you can use this when you're not using the default covers, but you'd need a code that provides super HD preview pics without the default covers- that's what the datatitle import is for. It provides high end preview pics based on a code derived from the titles instead of the images. If you used a data image import when images were checked off on the page I linked, then the data image code has no code to work off of.

You might be able to switch all the data image codes in your css with data title to achieve a layout that provides HD preview pics without the small default civer images and with the datatitle import:

@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/datatitlebefore.css";

example in base form
@import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/datatitlebefore.css";

/* COVER SIZE */
.data.title a:before{
width: 200px;
height: 300px;
}

/* COVER POSITION */
.data.title a:before{
position: fixed;
top: 1%;
left: calc(50% - 750px);
}

/* OTHER CODES */
.data.title a:before
{content: "";
display: block !important;
background-position: center !important;
background-repeat: no-repeat !important;
background-size: cover;
border: 1px solid #ffffff;
box-shadow: 0 2px 5px rgba(0,0,0, 0.7);
visibility: hidden;
opacity: 0;
z-index: 5;}

.list-table .list-table-data:hover .data.title a:before {
visibility: visible;
opacity: 1;}

.list-table .list-table-data:hover .data.title a:before {

opacity: 1;}

For starters: the image I linked in the chat earlier was the correct HD one, but the image link I had in my CSS was not; the links were only one character off, so I didn't notice the difference until I went back to check. Anyways:

So the issue I thought I had was this: the Laputa preview image I wanted to use was different than the default image on the anime's MAL page, so I had to import it manually outside of the usual @import command. That image was coming in at a lower resolution than the rest of the images; I mistakenly believed that this meant any image that wasn't the default thumbnail would come in at low quality.

The real issue was this: the image link I was using to import the image was outdated, but since the image links were very similar, I didn't notice that I hadn't updated it. Hopefully that makes sense.

Again, sorry for the trouble. It was entirely a user error, nothing more.

@johneaston I still dont understand what happened or what you were asking, but if its fixed, ok, haha

if you have any more questions please use this format:
1) tell us whats broken
2) what page to see it on
3) how would it look if it was fixed

otherwise it's a lot of time and complications figuring it out, not that anyone is a problem but because of differences in experience and interpreting the list we all kind of speak different languages about this kinda stuff, like when ppl simple say "sidebar" that could be several things from different ppl's perspectives

btw I dont think this is the correct HD cover
https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/1539/129891l.jpg

it is supposed to be this
https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/5/37799l.jpg
because it's the "large" version of the default cover below (see the URLs)
https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/5/37799.jpg

that's the cover MAL uses
https://myanimelist.net/anime/513/Tenkuu_no_Shiro_Laputa/pics

Although regarding the cover images you manually changed that particular anime to, they are definitely better.

@Shishio-kun https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/1539/129891l.jpg that's the correct hd cover, if you had looked at his CSS you could see he didn't want to use the default MAL cover, hd, super hd or whatever, he's overwriting it with his preferred one now, while it wasn't easy for me to understand what he meant, the code kinda told me what he was trying to do, replace the default with another one of the large covers be it hosted by MAL or not..

@ShaggyZE OK, but I did look at his CSS, that's why I said he manually changed it (to the blue floating girl cover on small default and big HD)

@Shishio-kun sorry, I assumed you did look at least once if not more, but yea, that's all he wanted to do, but he used the old hd cover without the "l" at first, so user error.

also my API has the ability of doing custom covers, per user basis, something no other cover generator has done, but not going to make a big deal out of it as that's a niche feature. (I could easily create a page that you give MAL auth to and lists all your anime/manga so you can choose/upload replacement covers, but no one would care to use it)

do you plan on keeping this up to date? (also, you should remove {} near the top for the malscraper import to work.)

Do I need to update my list? Sorry, I almost stopped following customization topics because I'm too lazy to do it again.

@wessilv
If your list is broken in some way, then you'd probably need to update to get it back to normal.

For preview pics you can add the import from this topic that matches your layout CSS imports. The imports are at the top of your list code and say import in them so they're easy to find. Most layouts use this one, the dataimage link before:
@\import "https://shishiohub.github.io/Covers/dataimagelinkbefore.css";

There's also the process of making the import for your username here, pretty much everything (last I knew) on this is there under part B

for anything else broken on the layout it's on that page

@Shishio-kun Wow, I didn't realize my list was so blurry, now I can see the covers very well. Thank you very much, good sir!

@karmashizzle All updated, you may need to refresh the cookies but if it's not working link me to where they are on your list and I'll see what needs to be done.

Not sure what the first staticy cover is for, but it doesn't look like an anime or anything
