Well you can say it got overshadow magical girls like Madoka ever since after 2010s the magical genre got less popular than before so not new people knew about it even though there is a new one.

Doesnt have a large western fanbase talking about it constantly ≠ obscure.
It just isn’t currently isn’t running new eps/chapters. So discussion isn’t as booming as it was when the original manga came out or the Remake was coming out.

Srsly I saw a lot of folks talking about and excited for Tokyo New Mew.
