You can just instantly tell how friendly Yaeko is this and her characters is always so open to her friends.

Fun stuff this episode with her personality and the festival.

Vacation episode, I'm not sure how all will be connected, ranging from mermaid to great-grandfather to Yaeko's childhood friend.

They're totally sacrificing people to get benefits on the island

Living in any small community is definitely like a "Where did this person come from?" any time a stranger shows up

Shio mentioning Statham made me laugh, but I'm more tortured by the question, about the girl with the broom.

Good episode, I guess Yae's friend is possessed by something that is draining his energy?

@Stark700 The opening image of her on a motorcycle like she was in a Toriyama one shot was already fun...random, but fun

Just realizing the Girochin/Guillotine Shop lady has still not been named, as far as I recall, but she also really hasn't had many lines that aren't general sounds you could substitute in from a database almost. And this is maybe her 3rd appearance overall?

@ShiroAlex The Girochin shop owner that lets Mogura borrow her wifi and phone? Yeah, she gives off vibes like she's maybe linked to the afterlife in some way. The flowers she wears are red spider lilies (which I only know the rough appearance due to the blue spider lily from Demon Slayer), which do have a link to the afterlife, even Hell by some folklore, said to grow there (perhaps Yomi specifically?)

@Zudoba Haven't even seen Higurashi, but I think that's a common example in itself from anime, though I think even more recent anime have sometimes had it. Like that one death game one where it tied to some small town....Ousama Game?

Kyouko and Shio's outfits are cute, Shio's ponytail has me thinking I might have a type/preference, though Shio is fun, spacey as she is. Kyouko looks like a flight attendant from the old days

And Yoshino is adorable, reminds me a bit of Chika from World Trigger with a mix of the imouto archetype, since she really seems to gravitate to Yaeko (actually laughing and smiling) and her mother (mostly hiding behind her)

Ah, the guy we saw in the opening after Yae's series of expressions and probably the girl we see might be some kind of spirit affecting him negatively. I've only just been reading some of the old Japanese horror stories, though there's probably more variants for stuff where it's some kind of youkai disguised as a human lady and draining a man's life slowly. Actually the lady we see in the opening might be one of the Samejima family if the other people below the matriarch were members, the lady 2nd from the right looks like her from what I remember

Mori seems like his state isn't being drained so much as being stalked and he becomes increasingly reclusive

Oh, this is the first time that Ukigumo, the girl with the broom, talk in the anime.
Hopefully this anime gets sequel in the future because she will have a big role after this mermaid arc.

@holdingnothing Too bad there is no manga translation, but judging by raw in the next story arc with her there will be more dialog.

@Bambingwiw I saw that name when I was looking around, but it didn't seem to give a voice actor name, or the AI Google search botched it up and mixed the voice actors up

@ShiroAlex KManga has English chapters, though access is probably gated similarly to Shonen Jump's manga library and that just got the price upped to $4 a month, which blows, given it already got bump from $2 to $3 back in 2022~. Unless you mean there isn't English translations for the chapters we're at now, because there's 17 chapters on KManga, and it looks like we're way past where that is in the story. Interface does look pretty good, fullscreen doesn't have the awkward border issue that Viz has on desktop

@holdingnothing As far as I remember, there seems to be an adaptation of 23 and onwards chapters going on now, 4 volumes, and the normal dialogues with Ukigumo with story is volume 5, maybe there will be an 11-12 episode, hopefully. It's seriously a shame there probably won't be a second season, gorgeous adaptation.

@ShiroAlex I'm wondering how long this island merfolk incident will be, since it seems like it'd be upwards of 3, maybe 4 episodes depending. But if it does it in maybe 1 or 2 more, that would leave an episode or 2.

@ShiroAlex I can only think of maybe 1 series I would love to see a 2nd season for, though not holding my breath it'd be good, like how Terra Formars' 2nd season just shat the bed almost.

Tokyo ESP gets really interesting later on if you resume the manga where the anime ended off; the one tomboyish thief lady with invisibility powers deals with her mother and sister later (the mother pulling an insane feat when we deal with the MacGuffin teased from the fragment we see the Professor use), we get a slight variant on the common comic book storyline where you have restraint collars for powered individuals, complete with a "detention facility". And there's technically a secondary protagonist, which might've been a deterrent in popularity versus Rinka, who was probably more popular overall

I laughed when Yae's great-grandpa spat on the ground after Mogura showed off his bowmanship.

@holdingnothing I think it's 2 more episodes, though it could be an episode and a half. There's often a story arc that ends in the middle of a episode. I remember I started reading Tokyo ESP and Ga-rei, but back when they were in ongoings and before the adaptation, I don't even know where I left off.

@ShiroAlex Ga Rei is apparently referenced slightly in the anime, but Tokyo ESP is one of only a handful of series that I actually gobbled up the manga afterwards with gusto. And Tokyo ESP gets weird, though I forget the exact ending, since a story like that can go one of a few ways, an unpopular one being everyone loses the powers and learns a lesson, versus just moving forward with a superpowered society (Even if it's not a huge amount of people...they never quantify it that much)
