I enjoyed the manga IMMENSLY so im asuming I'll enjoy the anime just as much! I'm just nervous it won't live up to my expectations, so is there anything the animation does really well in comparison to the manga? Anything you loved about it or wished MAPPA had done differently?

alot of people complained about it but I'm gonna say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
i just love d th animation, the colour palette, sound design. I mean, I'm not sure how to tonexplwon this but CSM anime for he has one of the best bgms and direction.
the scene before Himeno does is fone so beautifully. I love how you can feel the emotions through the screen.
if a season 2 comes I'll want it done the same way. I don't know how many times I watched it cause it's done so well!

the first season has pretty iffy directing but i personally think that it ended up pretty good (i don't care much for animation quality as long as it's good but i've heard mixed opinions although i personally thought it was really good and matched the series as a manga reader)
the soundtrack is really good and the voice acting is top tier imo (sub and dub)
also the reze-hen film is looking really good too
sorry i waffle a lot but yeah i 100% think it's worth a watch
i think it's just one where it really stands out visually and fits fujimotorboat's art style with how it's animated

season 2 will be international assassins which is by far my favourite arc from part one
if it keeps the same directing and animation i will be overjoyed 🙏🏻

It lives up to the material it covers well. It for me is the weakest part of the manga. I watched the anime (felt it was over-hyped) first and decided to give the manga a chance and now I'm excited for what's to come, especially the Reze Arc movie and international arc. If they ever get to the more recent stuff I am very curious to see how it looks animated. Cause I love everything basically after season 1 in the manga.

Manga was damm good but the anime managed to make the chapters it covered, the feel and things that happened on them more impactful and tense than in the manga. I saw the anime first. Loved it

Man I loved the style of Chainsaw man. Especially the camera work. So I'll definitely miss the camera work. I'm anime-only so I dont know how great Chainsaw man could have been, but it was really good to me

Most likely the same people who would watch another generic isekai harem slop nr.200.

Less goofy and much more serious than the manga.

Yeah for sure. However the tone is definitely more serious compared to the manga since it goes for a more cinematic film like approach. This means that some of the comedy doesn’t hit as hard or is as goofy in the manga.

easily the best adaptation in a long time. had to give up on looking for shows that look like the csm anime because i realized it's a tall order, heavenly delusion was good though.

It has a different vibe from the manga but not in a bad way at all. The Manga is wacky and the anime is cinematic, i adore them both.

I know many people will disagree with me but I think that the anime of Chainsaw man looks a bit too polished. It fails to capture the raw roughness of the manga imo.

The adaptation is too high quality and misses out on the shounen charm that the manga has in my opinion.

But thats just me, I guess.

It's great, but the style is very different from the manga. CSM's manga art is rough and very striking, the anime however tries to capture Fujimoto's cinema-like feel but adjusts it to fit the animation format better. As a result, the pacing in the anime feels less intense than the manga. Overall, they're both great in style but for different reasons.

@riqmoran I mostly agree. I mean, the story in the manga isn’t bad. It’s just okay. Nothing groundbreaking for the genre. I can see it being perfect for people for whom Chainsaw Man is likely the first and probably the last manga they’ll ever read, lol; but as for shounen manga in general, it's okay. Good at times, with weaker moments here and there, entertaining, but that's it.

That said, the anime really elevated the source material to another level. It’s a shame so many anime fans all around the world reacted like an emotionally unstable mob towards it. I get that some people were upset because the anime didn’t match how they imagined it would look, but you can express that in a civilized way and just move on. Not seethe over it for years. The manga still exists, and the anime has high production quality. There’s no need to dive into full-blown toxicity over it. Not every popular manga series can get such good treatment.

pretty much. it's the same with Attack on Titan. entitled fans dogging on Mappa despite the fact the product looks better than 90% of everything out there. most authors wish they got an adaptation that looks half as good as the stuff these guys complain about. and nothing will ever be good enough for manga elitists. they will always cope by saying the manga looks better.

season 1 director decided to take the "realistic" route, so the animation is very realistic and "rotoscopy" at times. Some over the top gags or facial expressions are downplayed, so that might be a downside. But I think they are not doing that anymore with the new movie.

Well, it's not bad, but it doesn't live up to the original series. There are some missing parts, nothing important, but someone could complain about that, then, the pacing is a bit strange and some lines are out of character, I'm talking about the mere voice acting. But, I'll repeat myself, it's not bad.

I enjoyed it. I think it really hits home with some of the emotional scenes and has one of the best directed slice of life moments I’ve seen. I enjoyed the manga so I’m looking forward to seeing the Reze movie when it releases.

The directing and action pacing just doesn’t really match the manga, it emphasizes the wrong story beats, and really misses the tone of some things. The fights are also missing impact. While they look crazy and like it’s a lot happening it’s a lot of flailing more than impactful blows.

The manga and anime have 2 different feels to me. There's just some things you can't adapt into the anime because of how Fujimoto(mangka) does his paneling. On the other hand the anime also pushes the manga forward with bringing the characters and personalities to life. I'm really curious how the new art style for the movie is going to translate, since it seems closer to the manga art.

In the end both are great and both should be enjoyed.

Absolutely not. The anime toned down the pacing, the colors and the liveliness of the characters. It's like a totally different mood. Disregarding the awful CGI, the anime feels like a completely different beast. I did not like this adaption and am very glad that they are going back to the tone of the manga for the upcoming movie and second season.

I watched the anime first and went to the manga. At best I’d give the anime like a 7/10. It’s just kinda rushed and hard to care about most characters. I decided to give the manga a chance and even the parts covered by the anime are way better in the manga. I actually care about the characters and story now

Having watched both this and the reze arc, I can say for sure I like the style of the movie better. The color is more vibrant, less details for the characters but more fluid and natural-looking animation, with over the top action scenes. To be completely honest, in season 1, a character turning their head around takes a couple of second which not only is unnecessarily long, but also janky. Not everything has to be dramatic.

The movie "fixes" this issue I had with season 1.
