Is it a personal feeling or is this anime a window into the current political landscape, or have we been like this for decades?

"Rachel S. Cordasco, reviewing the novel series in Locus Magazine in 2020, praised the work as "a remarkable series... a multi-layered, multi-textual work [that] tells different stories on multiple levels", also observing that it is not just a space opera, but also, an "in-depth historiography" of the future military conflict, comparing it to the 18th-century historical work The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire."

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu does not give easy answers, but rather presents the complications and contradictions inherent in any political or social system, making it a profound and mature work that invites us to question both the fictional world of the series and the realities of our own systems. In times of the United States and China, we must remember Captain Chennault: "It is my fondest hope that the sign of the Flying Tiger will remain aloft just as long as it is needed and that it will always be remembered on both shores of the Pacific as the symbol of two great peoples working toward a common goal in war and peace."

I'd prefer comparing this kind of chapteristic storytelling and symbolised characters to Chinese classical "Romance of Three Kingdoms."

Idk about our current political landscape. Politics is incredibly complex compared to this show because of the limitations of a story. Just look at all the issues and priorities of the United States alone and it will make your head spin compared to LOGH.

But the themes definitely still apply even if it can’t reach the same complexity

@ghier I agree that it lacks complexity, I would have liked them to give more prominence to the Terraist Cult to better understand their machinations and dreams. While watching the series I thought of Vargas Llosa's La fiesta del chivo or García Márquez's El otoño del patriarca, to imagine a dictator with the psychological complexity of those novels is to give thanks for someone like Reinhard.
